Hi Alan

First of all wash your caravan with a good caravan shampoo, rinse using Fenwick's Bobby Dazzler and then use a polish with a slight cutting agent such as Meguiars Deep Crystal step 2 or Auto Glym. After you have polished use a wax containing carnauba wax to seal the surface, Meguiars Deep Crystal wax step 3 or Auto Glym sealant should do the job.

My Elddis caravan is just under 5 years old and is still in beautiful condition - except for the ABS/Fibre Glass front panel and gas locker etc. This has deteriorated like several of my previous vans due to the effects of the sunlight and weathering. The shiny finish has gone and is now matt finish and only improves slightly with polishing - basically it just looks dull and takes the shine (excuse pun) out of our pride & joy. The back of the van which is normally shaded is still perfect.

However, all this was until a couple of weeks ago when I discovered a product made by Farecla (there are some other USA ones) which is actually a Gelcoat Restorer and also includes a Wax Polish. This has brought the front of our van virtually back to how it used to be and we are hoping that the wax polish will keep it like that. The product is also for use on the ABS/FGlass finishes which are still sound to act as a protective layer. The product is advertised mainly as a Marine product but it does for caravans as well.

The good thing is that it doesn't act as a cutting paste, it actually adds to the surface by filling in the microscopic holeswhich develop in the gelcoat and are then sealed with the polish. I think that in the past I have just been polishing off the top layer of gelcoat only to start the whole process again .

Just Google it on the internet as "Gelcoat Restorer" to find a dealer that will send it to you. Cost me about

Hi, i have an old 1981 Eccles topaz, when i bought it about 5 yrs ago it was the same. I used t-cut, it was real hard work but so so worth it. After the t-cut i waxed it. The plastic windows were dull as well, i used t-cat and wax on these too polishing in an up and down motion rather than in circular motions they came up like new so did the body of the caravan. now every year i give it a wax and it really looks as shiny as the new vans next to me on site. You said you had an older van, What is it just out of interest?
