I would be really interested to know if the Scottish Accident with caravan had anything to do with winds. The worst I remember was en route to the Outer Hebrides a couple of years ago - I had left a lovely campsite on the Moray Firth in reasonable weather when I got a message from the ferry company to tell me the sailing was cancelled from Ullapool. As I went uphill heading westwards it began to get pretty unpleasant I must say - I soldiered on for a while but felt in need of my lunch break - found a great layby and put down the steps to go in the van to make a sandwich - only to find them 30 feet the other side of the van before I could stand on them! Being a little sparing with myself I hadn't put down the corner stays - and after about 30 seconds inside the van decided to get out of it! I then reparked it head into the wind and had a decent snack. I found the campsite just out of Ullapool had space for the night so parked up there but the wind was so severe I had to take two trips out with dogs (one alone then two dogs) as I didn't think I could stand up AND open the caravan door with the three of them! It was amazing but it also taught me just how much a caravan will take without tipping up! The night was miserable as I had the fiamma folded up and it bashed the caravan ALL NIGHT! Remarkably enough the sea was quite reasonable by midday! And the outer hebrides were well worth the trip - I will be returning I hope one day.
Take care all - and as everyone says confidence is important - cockiness might land one in a lot of trouble!

Well we went. As promised Monday dawned a bit 'breezy' to say the least. We waited while lunchtime, The awning was holding steadfast so we set off to Lyme Park only to find it closed due to the wind. Apparently its National Trust policy to close parklands etc when winds are 50mph+. Went back to the site which really wasn't too affected by the wind. Must be a little sheltered by the hills. Came back today, which, as is usual for us, was the best day of the week.
