Sick pay!!!

Unbelievable but at least the judge saw through his charade. I cannot believe though how IBM even considered introducing such an over generous scheme.

Many companies have insurance-based permanent disability sickness cover, most of my employers had it while I was working, so I don't think IBM is exceptional in this case.

I hate newspaper headlines. The guy is very lucky IBM gave him the prolonged disability insurance cover FOC. Even by todays standards he’s doing very well imo. Shame he didn’t question terms of the policy when he first started at IBM.
I should add that such Insurance policies are subject to annual review medically speaking. The claimant will have to demonstrate with medical evidence why he cannot do his job. Also the Insurer is entitled to have him medically examined by their own medical advisors.. So we must assume he is still ill, but maybe greedy!

Being able to front such a claim leaves me questioning why such ability could not have been equally used on continuing doing his, or some part of his, IT job?

Then probably overlooking the obvious logic flaw underpinning the claim, as the judge Housego highlighted, the claimant had rather indicated doing IT work was not his strength.
