Side-out on caravans why not ?

There would be a significant weight penalty, the floor, roof and sidewalls would need strengthening considerably.

Slide-outs are already available on fifth-wheelers but these are built to heavy-duty specifications.

Hobby made and sold a caravan model with a slide-out but it never sold successfully, but I have seen two on French campsites.

I can't remember a Hobby slide-out caravan, but I do know that Knaus had one too and that was equally unsuccessful. Apart from the disadvantages that Roger already listed, watersealing of the slide-out is another problem.
