We do the same when we have an awning up, but my concern was regarding if using only a sun canopy. What do you do with your stuff as a pain to load into the caravan every time you go out and then unload it on your return.
Take less stuff. Sorry I know that sounds facetious but how much do you really really need. It can be very freeing to simplify things.

When we had our sun canopy it doesn"t have a front panel but ours came with sides we use to put a windbreak around the front and just leave the stuff under the caravan usually everything was there.
Surely if it had a front, it would not be a sun canopy?

In the awning is the table, two Lafuma chairs and maybe a box of beer. Can't really take less.

Our van is small - usually the smallest on site - so our porch awning is really used as extra storage space. The table goes in there to put odds and ends on, matress toppers, boots, wet clothing, rubbish bin etc. We're not on site much during the day so seldom need to sit out but if we take the chairs they will also be stored in the awning.

Occasionally when my grandson and daughter accompany us we'll put the inner tent and camp bed in there and I get the short straw :)

Takes me on my own about 30 minutes to put up completely and less to take down.

We are away at present. Last time away we didn't bother with awning and didn't think we really missed it. But put it up this time and it's great, sat in it now with beer, cool box and small table with the kettle on. We prefer to sit outside and sat here listening to the bird song.
Kev , we sat outside yesterday. Table and chairs in the back of the car . No awning. Since the dogs went the awning has remained in the loft. Plus here the Bell Inn is very cosy😜

We once, a long long time ago, had our pump stolen from the caravan in the middle of the night. Took a while for us to work out why the taps would not work in the morning.

But that is the one and only incident. If I did not feel that I could not trust fellow campers, then caravaning would not have worked for me.

Taking into consideration where we lived previously, we are very security conscious maybe overly so. On site over the past 20 years we have had our working pump swapped for a faulty one, a gas cylinder and a levelling ramp stolen.
