OK, so I'm picking up my first 'van in a few weeks. It comes with an awning, but I'm a bit puzzled about some sites.

If it's all hardstanding, how do you peg awning out? If it's gravel, same question (I used to be a camper and had problems with the v profile pegs in harder ground)

Bear with a newbie please.

Rock pegs are typically hardened 9" nails with a cross-bar welded on to permit extraction.
It's quite common to build up sets of different peg types - I use conventional plastic cruciform pegs on gravel or small stone hardstandings as they grip better than rock pegs - but it depends what the underneath layers are made of - granite is the worst!

Lump hammer to knock em in & a claw hammer or as i use a long crow bar for the ease of hooking & pulling them out of the ground....
A pair of knee pads come in handy

When on grass we use screw pegs and the drill to insert them. Sometimes you can use them on a hardstanding, but definitely not on any hardstanding that the CC offer. LOL!

I noticed some of teh hardstandingas at C Chapel Lane are solid tarmac rather than the usual compacted gravel. You'd need a pneumatic drill. I think they are primarily designed for Motorhome use. Like Surfer I have used screwpegs for the last 8 years but do need to replace them as they are pretty battered and bent now.
