My husband died last year and we only purchased our caravan in March. I tow it and absolutely love the freedom of caravanning but would love to meet up with other single caravanners to share breaks or organise gatherings. Are there any other single people out there who would like company when they take their caravans away? Everything I see or read about caravanning only refers to couples or families.

my 6 year old daughter and I have just been on our first rally since my wife died at the end of the year, she had a great time, however welcoming our friends were it was all very coupley and I certainly gave up on the socials much earlier in the night than ever before. A club for young single parents would also be good but I doubt if there are enough of us out there that would be going on rallies etc...
Hello. I am from a family but we would certainly welcome anyone who was on their own with child/ren.(as we have children who love socialising) I understand it may not be what the single person would want but we ARE here if you need us.I have single friends at home so why not on a camp site.
I've always believed that caravanning is a classless hobby. So I'm an open minded person here and don't view anyone as being any different to me.
As permanent caravanner's we do get stereo type'd by some folks and suprisingly even relations as my niece once pointed out when she referrred to us as pikey's.
I have friends met through caravanning who we would of never met by any other means and they envy our lifestyle some of them because they are trapped in the mansion's of life etc. I've even met a chap who chose to live in his motorhome as a pensioner because he is better cared for by fellow caravanners than local social services.
So Cheryl, I do admire your reslove through what must be a very difficult time in your life and would encourage you to continue to enjoy your hobby.

In the interests of fairness and to put the brakes on a possible downward slide I'd better point out at this juncture that the derogatory term for gypsies or travellers contained in Steve's comments is considered by many to be equivalent to using the 'N' word to describe black people of the 'P' word to describe Asians.
It should not be commonly used on this website, I had to remove a topic last night which started innocently enough and then descended into the usual stereotyping insulting terms.
Whatever we may think as individuals Practical Caravan operates within a politically correct environment and even a casual throwaway comment not meant to cause offence often does just that.

having just returned from dockray meadow caravan club site, i noticed 2 advertisements in the information room next door to reception, both single caravanners clubs/meets, if you ring the warden on 01946 861357, i am sure she will go next door and get you the phone numbers or web site details, both were in the north west. hope this helps.

I'm a member of two singles caravan clubs and can honestly tell you that there is a great welcome out there for you from the single caravanning fraternity.
Hope you will come along this summer.

Thank you very much for this information. I have e-mailed the Phoenix Camping Club and will certainly contact the other one. I would be very sad to have to give up this hobby.

i,m a single parent with 2 daughters(12&14) who would love to meet up with other people in the same situation. i currently belong to a little club which is great but also find the social side can be a bit coupley and feel a bit left out,it would be great if a club exsisted for us singles. the few i have found seem to be catered for people with an older outlook and it be nice to find a club with children around my daughters age or just for like minded people.

where abouts in the country are you?? just come back from a site that was hosting a rally for CC EYC, I have to say that i thought to myself I wouldn't of wanted to be on the rally for the reasons i didn't enjoy the last one. My wife always made the first contacts and I don't think i would do that with all couples there
Thank you for this information. I shall certainly make enquiries and pursue all possibilities to caravan on my own and hope to meet up with like-minded people.

i too was widowed last yearand we had a caravan, but i had to sell it as i can drive, but not that far, i only tootle here and there; not long distances. but i would love to meet a male for friendship who could take the driving out of it all, our caravanning friends have stopped calling; its as though i have the plague, or something; i can assure you i have'nt i know how you feel cheryl;
I'm not single but my OH works away and I as I don't work I would be free to meet up with others whilst he's away. It would be great to meet and make new friends. I'm in Scotland Loch Lomond area if any one is near ot interested in meeting up?

My kids and I have been caravanning for five years now and truly enjoy the 'real' time we spend together out and about with the 'van'.
Over this time I have met some really nice couples and the kids have made many friends from all over the UK.
However, over the last 12 months or so, I've felt increasingly 'gooseberryish'. The kids are off doing their 'thing' (apparently when children hit teenage years, parents become embarassing! lol), it would be nice to be able to go chat to folk without feeling like the 'saddo single woman with the kids'
So, I decided to try to find a club for said single caravanners. I've googled all sorts to no avail.I have found a few for the more mature of our bretheren, but none so far for the younger ones of us.
Just wondered if anyone else may have had more success? I would be extremely interested.

sorry to here about you losing your partner dont give up something you love to do most caravaners are friendly i do not mix that easily but i would never see any one look lonley
