Single father with young daughter

I am a single father with a 7 year old daughter and about to start camping. Very basic caravan with no ensuite etc.
What do people do in regards to toilets and showering. In park amenities
Have sent the shower by her self a couple of times buy her self while i waited outside and when finished she come out with towel wrapped around and some complained as wasnt coverd up enough and also complained that i was standing out side which i explained why. How else do fathers get around the hole gender issue with showers

Could have a portapotti for nighttime use, saves trotting across a wet campsite. You can buy small toilet tents or if you have an awning the curtains give privacy. Commercial and the two club sites will have toilet and showers. But you have to check as a few club sites have more limited or no facilities all year or out of season. There are now lots of back to nature sites which have basic facilities such as a one or two toilets and a shower. the two clubs have Certified Sites/ Certfied Locations which restrict numbers and are members only. These range from a field right through to excellent high quality facilities.

Im sure you will sort something out as one way or another we’ve all been there especially tent campers and any that went to Europe with Canvas Holidays etc.

Whatever enjoy your adventures.

Do have a porta potty. The using the showers is a big issue. Also what do people do with there young kids while the only adult showers

Consider selling the current caravan and purchasing one with a bathroom and toilet? Many sites prohibit young children going to the bathroom facilities on their own which is understandable. However some sites do have what they call family rooms which are bathrooms for the family.

Finacialy selling it wont be enough to get one with shower and toilet unfortunately

At that age I took our kids and grandkids of opposite sex into my showers as they are separate cubicles. Not like our local pool where it was communal male or female changing areas and my daughter once remarked ‘ Daddy look at that man”s hairy bum”.

I have been to one site that had a family bathroom (even had a bath!) which would be ideal.
It may be worth having a word with the wardens and asking to use any disabled facilities that may be separate from the main shower block.
Failing that I would take her with me, used to have to do that with my kids when I took them for swimming lessons.

Over the years I've seen several fathers take their daughters into the Men's shower, indeed even into the Men's Toilets - there may be some camp sites where you wouldn't want to do that.

Once our daughter or granddaughter got to around 9-10 years old they would be fine using the ladies facilities and I would always walk up with them and linger around outside.

Wouldn’t mind one of those for next spring when my solo camping starts again 😂 Where would hot water come from though? Or would I need a cold shower?
It would be an invigorating start to the day Clive. 😨
A couple of kettles full of hot water in the Aquaroll might take the edge off it.

Regrettably the aqua roll et al went with the van 😢
For a hot shower use a lightweight 20L solar camping shower bag. They work quite well on warm / hot days. When in SA tried one and nearly scaled myself so used to tip the hot water into a bucket with cold water to mix and then into another bucket with numerous holes for the shower. It sort of worked.
For a bath we dug a hole in the ground and put in a tarpaulin as no large plastic sheets available. Again some hot water with a lot of cold water as it was hot bathing under the sun with outside temperature at over 35C. LOL!

Most CAMC sites and lot of private sites have a family room. Although there will be an age limit a word with the owner or warden explaining your conundrum will most likely bear results. The potra potti for night time use is a reasonable idea too and maybe even a toilet tent.

Some sites have a separate family room. If you can’t find one, seek out sites with disabled facilities separate to the main shower block and before you book, ring the site manager and explain your situation. Ask if they would give you the key to the disabled facilities so that you can assist your daughter. Also invest in a Porta Potti.
