This is very interesting, as someone selling a boat which are often referred to as "floating caravans" the charging of sites seems a little odd.

I guess boats are a little different because we don't keep them at home or in storage (mine was 32 feet and 11 feet wide!), we keep them in marinas so you can go to your boat Friday night at stay on board for no extra cost.

When we used to visit another marina you would pay a fee for the boat overnight and that would usually include electricity and all facilities would be available to you, no one ever asked how may people on the boat it was all down to the boat length and that was it. I guess we would pay around £30 per night somewhere like Cowes.

Will be interesting to see how much it is going to cost me when we visit in our caravan (a twin axle so asking for trouble probably) and two teenage boys.

P.S. It cost me £7000pa to keep the boat in a marina in Gosport.

The fee for the boat makes the near £400 The Caravan Club charge me for storing our caravan look almost reasonable.

I like the French system. There you pay for your pitch - no nonsense about awnings, gazebos, kids tents, or dogs - its simple! Only if you select a larger pitch maybe with higher amperage/fully serviced do you pay more which is fair enough. And you can orientate your outfit how you wish-no regimented rows

I agree with Chrisn7 , you get to France , your shown your plot and you can park your unit anyway you want. The only way you can do this in Britain is if your are on a CL site.

I'm looking forward to the much cheaper hobby, that's for sure. :cheer:

in that case just stick to boats but get a smaller one, caravanning isn't cheap either,
