Heading for North Devon next year and thinking of staying at Damage Barton caravan site. Can anyone recommend it, or suggest a better site near sandy beach in that area.

The site is really nice, great views, good shop, lovely walks but the sea is not as close as it first looks. Nearest sandy beach is at Woolacombe 5 min drive away, parking expensive unless you get there early. Or catch the bus from the site entrance. But all said and done its a lovely site.

Damage Barton has a superb position for views looking across the Bristol Channel to South Wales but a fair walk down to Mortehoe or the coast path. Twitchen Park is just down the road towards Mortehoe and further down again is Easewell Farm Park site. Both of these are owned by the Woolacombe Bay Group. The latter we always reckoned was one of the best sites in the South West with it's own golf course but since Woolacombe Bay have taken it over it is not so well cared for and there are a lot of "static" tourers - a phenonenem which appears to be getting more popular.

Our favourite site in the area is North Morte Farm - a smallish family owned site it has some traditional statics, and amazing camping fields with spectacular coastal views. The caravan touring field is only about 40 pitches but it is a very pleasant site. The facilities are always immaculate and there is a pleasant play area for the kids. The site adjoins the coastal path and the local village, about 600 yards walk, has three pubs and a fish and chip shop. There are super coast path walks to Lee Bay and Woolacombe.

The site is adjacent (the other side of the lighthouse road) to Easwell so if you fancy taking your clubs the course is open to all.

We are somewhat biased as North Morte is a favourite site of ours being only an hour from home.It is a little gem and you don't see it advertised very much - most of their business is by word of mouth and by adults returning from their childhood holidays.

Woolacombe is a busy but unspoilt resort which has been regenerated in the past 10 years by the boom in surfing and has a super three miles long sandy beach.

Oh forgot to mention that North Morte has it's own beach, Rockham Bay which is pebbled but sandy when the tide is out and plenty of rock pools. It's about half a mile walk down from the site.

Looking forward to the spring so we can get back to Mortehoe again.

Hi There

We love Damage Barton. Fantastic views over the Bristol Channel across to South Wales (on a clear day). Excellent facilities and a great feeling of space (even in Aug) with plenty of room for the kids to run around. You can access the coast walks easily from the site and there is an excellent chippie in Morthoe. Toilet/shower facilities are first class as well.

Only negatives are you have to drive (or it's a long walk) to the beach (although woolacombe beach is certainly worth driving to), and it's often windy on site, so make sure your awning is well secured.

I would recommend it.
