Margaret, Bunree is a great site. We were lucky and had a lochside pitch there. The sunsets were fantastic. The Corran vehicle ferry is within walking distance from the site and there is an Inn on the other side of Loch Linnhe which serves good lunches. We didn't take bikes over, but it looked good for cycling.
It's not far from Bunree to Fort William, where we took the steam train over the Glenfinnan viaduct to Mallaig. We had a fish and chip lunch at Mallaig harbour and time for a walk around, before returning back to Fort William.
Incidentally, one the best views of Ben Nevis is from the Commando Memorial.
From Bunree, we took the caravan to Morvich, set amongst wonderful scenery. From here you can easily reach the Kyle of Lochalsh (there is a co-op supermarket here to stock up) and not far away is the bridge over to Skye. But beware - August is high midge season and they'll eat you alive! Take plenty of Avon Skin so Soft Dry Oil Body Spray in 'Forest Fresh'
From Morvich we then went on to Ullapool where there is a good commercial site overlooking Loch Broom, within walking distance of Ullapool (they actually have midge eating machines dotted around the site), or a bit further along the A835 is the site at Ardmair Point, again overlooking the loch. You are on the doorstep of wonderful mountain country here. Knockan Cliff visitor centre (with toilets) is well worth a visit. Nearby is the 'Wee Mad Road' passing beside Stac Pollaidh (Stac Polly) with a car park here for climbers and walkers and the road carries on for several scenic miles.
We ended our holiday at Rosemarkie (a C&CC site), where the Dolphins can be seen from the site or from nearby Chanonry Point. A word of warning here though. It was June when we were there and it's light very early that far north and we were on pitch No.1. near the entrance. We were woken very early each morning (4.30 a.m. onwards) by the sound of grass cutting machinery by the adjacent golf club cutting the greens.
Apart from that, we had a great holiday. Take wet-weather gear though and be prepared for all weathers. We were in shorts at Bunree and in a howling gale at Ullapool, but be prepared for the dreaded midges in August!
