My son and his family have just managed to save enough money and bought themselves a 20 year old van, its in very good condition and they cant wait to get out in it. Last week they were looking at sites around Ashbourne. They found one that looked good so got prices. For a van and 2 adults it was £23, for the 2 kids it was £2 each, awning £2 and £3 for the dog and you can only stay a min of 2 nights.

£32 per night is highway robbery, especialy £3 for a dog , how much room do they think a dog takes up !!!.

At these prices its cheaper to get a package holiday in spain for a week and get waited on, at least you have more chance of sunshine. If every body boycoted these overpriced sites they would have to bring their prices to a realistic figure.

You do not need to pay as much as that for a holiday. You pay for the facilities. You go abroad and stay in a 4/5 star hotel you will pay more than staying at a 2 star self catering studio.

I do not agree paying for all the extras such as an awning but you should pay for extra persons as they are using the facilities which the site owner must pay eg. water, heating, electric, toilet paper etc. They also have to clean up after dogs where the owners do not clear up the mess after them

If you use the facilities in your caravan you can stay in a site for under

Due to our circumstances changing this year, along with a lot of people, we have had to look at spending less on our caravanning. We have started going on rallies which we wouldnt have done before. The children enjoy them and the weekend usually costs less than

Hi Graham

There are often bargains to be found by looking on the internet and Practical Caravan magazine has Aly's site bargains which is an article by Alyson Warnock which features pitch bargains every month.

As Lynda mentioned, a great way to maximise the use of the caravan for the minimum amount of cash is to try rallying. Most rallies stage events which children enjoy and they soon become friends with the other children so they have no shortage of playmates.

Many of the experienced ralliers from our district association no longer have to make do without electricity.

Good solar panel kits are now available for an initial outlay of around

Hi Graham.

We are members of the c&cc and use their THS (Temporary holiday sites)these are sites that are run by members for members.

Some of these sites may have EH at extra cost but majority dont,so looking after your power needs will have to rely on batterys/solar panels or a generator.

c&cc Ths are located accross the country and are good value for money some may also have a loo as well as the usual stand pipe and elsan point, also some are adjasent to a full facility park and you may well be able to use their showers etc.

There is no charge for your awning, and there is no charge for your dog either (max 2) c&cc charge PUN (per unit night)=two adults and your kiddies.

The least we have paid is
