Sites in Arran

Hi Deborah.

There not very many sites on Arran. There one at whiting bay, and a cl site at shiskine. And another site up at Lochranza. None are caravan or camping and caravan club sites. Apart from the small cl site at shiskine think its a camping and caravan one. Cost for the van on ferry is the same as the car, or depends on how big a van you have. In other words you paying to take two cars over. But if you not been on Arran before its a lovely island but please be aware the roads are not very smooth shall i say so care must be taken with a caravan .

The Isle of Arran is a little gemstone.

We stayed at Seal Shore Camping and Touring Site. The pitches are almost on the beach on a gentle slope. Wonderful views of Ailsa Craig the seals etc. The excellent facilities, are a real home from home.The owner prides himself on having the best showers in Scotland. They are great.

Next door is a refurbished hotel that does both pub and posh grub. In the summer the sun terrace is a delight.

We tried the site at Lochranza which had restricted scenery so always use Seal Shore.

We have friends at Saltcoats. Do not make the mistake we made . We spent one night at Sandylands Caravan Park Saltcoats.After that we always stay at the CC site Craigie Gardens.

Arran is probably best described as all the best of Scotland in minature.

Seeing Dougies comment of "be aware the roads are not very smooth" took me back to when we were on there.

We were parked up near Lochranza admiring the view when a Disco appeared towing a caravan down the mountain road going like hell. The wheels of the caravan spent as much time in the air as they did touching tarmac. I'm not sure if they were rushing to catch the ferry across to the Kintyre peninsula but my first thought was I bet he doesn't own that van because nobody would treat their own like that.
