hi im looking to tour for a couple of weeks in scotland but dont braelly want to get on sites with static vans anybody got any tips on good site with good facilites thanks neil

Bear that in mind.

I'd suggest you focus on the CC sites. I've used most of them and they are all first class. Thus you could do a round robin either clockwise of anti clockwise. It all depends how many hitches and pitches you have in mind and how much driving you want to do over two weeks??

Hi there Neil. I do a reccy on Google Earth before i visit any sites, if the relevant sattelite foto was taken during the spring/summer or autumn, you can see which sites have statics and which don't and, you can check the site layout and any tree positions so that you have prior knowledge when you arrive on site and set up your satt dish, For an example, go to Google Earth and zoom in on Bunchrew caravan site 2 miles north of Inverness, there you will see a site with statics AND a horseshoe of tress blocking all satt signals to the south BUT the site is open to the north so you can recieve freeview from the northern transmitter on the other side of the loch. Aahhh the wonders of the internet

Hi Neil,

We've been doing the same thing. Last couple of years we've gone Braemar CC, Ardmair Point Ullapool, North Ledaig Oban.

This year considered Grantown on Spey, Dalchalm Brora, Dunnet Bay, Rosemarkie or Culloden the nover to Sands Gairloch, but felt that this was too many sites and a bit too many miles.

At the moment we are starting at Grantown on Spey CC or Glenmore Forest Holidays, then onto Sands Gairloch, up to Ardmair Point Ullapool and find a site en route home to Dundee.

All of the sites mentioned have websites and I can recommend all of them except Glenmore and Sands as have never stayed at them ( anyone else got any views of these 2 sites ? ) All of the sites have really good facilities and some have excellent views.

Spent a week on Luss C&CC site on shore of Loch Lomond.

Nice clean and quiet site in great location with small village ,shop,pub etc.

Do some research as far as the midges are concerned.Believe me,you do not want to be there when they are!!

If you really want to get away from it all then try Altnaharra CC site.

This is THE back of the back of the back of beyond! Lol.

No facilities but a stunning place to unwind and watch the wildlife. If you are lucky you might even get a EHU.!

During our travels we have seen several others. Out of the above there are only 2 that I wouldn't want to stay on again. If you want really good facilities stick to CC sites, we planned our route based on the areas we wanted to stay so had a mixture of sites.

You will enjoy planning your route, as you have 2 weeks & Scotland is such a large area, bare in mind that if you change sites every few days you can see some wonderful scenery on route.

Of course make sure you bring all sorts of clothing as we can easily get 4 seasons in 1 day. Also travelling outside the high season seems to offer better weather prospects. The late summer/autumn has been excellent, except the far north west, but during May they had the best of the UK weather. July and August were washouts this year everywhere.

The other thing is if you venture in to the 'wilds' fill up with fuel regularly and be prepared for some expensive prices. I gather at the moment unleaded is running

Silverbank at Banchory is a nice site C C or you could try Ballater Aberdeenshire Council Site it has statics but well run last time we visited. What is good about these two sites is you can easily walk to the shops. If your going to the West Coast Arisaig has to be worth a visit.

We have stayed at Drumroaming campsite on several occasions, its near Kirkinner, just south of Newton Stewart, Dumfriesshire. We are off up to Bunree CC at Fort William in May, Inverness was red hot last May!!

Take a look at the UKCampsite website, you can search by region, choose a site then read the reviews, you can`t really go wrong with a site that has a lot of good feedback.
