Sites near Paris

We are going to France in May and intend to spend a few days on the outskirts of Paris, using RER / metro to travel into the city. From the CC Europe guide, there seem to be three good options for sites: Bois de Boulogne, Maisons Laffitte and the municipal site at Neuilly sur Marne. Any views from people who've stayed in any / all of these? In particular, accessibility to public transport is important. We're not that fussed about swimming pools, on-site restaurants etc but like to have local services close by.
 
We stayed at Maison Lafitte a few years back. It was fine for a shortish stay and within an easy 10 minute walk of the local railway station which took us into (I think) St Lazaire station - very central for Paris.
