Hi.

I think the Inside Park at Blandford, Dorset use to have kennels, not sure whether it still does. Have a look on there website. It is a very nice site.

We locate the site we want to use then phone a local kennel and ask for a day kennel facility.

That way, toby goes into the kennels only on days we go to where dogs are not allowed and we have him with us at night.

He is a real pain when he see's the kennels as he knows there are other dogs to play with!

So far, every kennel we have contacted have been new to day kenneling, but they all welcome the business and we know Toby is safe while we are out

IS THIS A WIND UP,take a dog with you on holiday AND THEN PUT HIM IN A KENNEL AT THAT LOCATION.don't get me wrong here,i'll admit i'm not a lover of dogs on sites, but you take a dog on holiday to be with YOU not shoved in a kennel out the road.why take the dog with you in the first place???????

I suppose it's a bit like taking your toddler shopping and then putting them in a ball park (with supervision) for a few hours. BLISS!!

It's actually kinder on the dog to be placed in a kennel rather than leaving them in the caravan or awning. There are occasions when you cannot take them with you when you are on holiday. The Eden Project has kennels on its site for that purpose.

there are places on holiday where you can't take kids,so what do we do then, bang them in care while we adults go ff on a jaunt.no!!! we avoid them adult only places and think about the kids.you take the kids on holiday for them to be with you,not shoved aside for someone else to look after,a dog is no different

The alternatives are to kennel the dog for 2 weeks or leave him alone in the van.

Neither is acceptable to us as we want him with us. He enjoys being with other dogs and we get to do the things with our kids like visit theme parks etc.

Everyone wins and the dog is well cared for.

I do not see a problem with it

Steve,

I don`t see a problem either, but you always get someone who goes off half cocked, and thinks they know better, chances are they haven`t even got a dog to cater for. I think the day kennel is a great idea, I wished i`d thought of doing it years ago.

i'm not ranting at anyone in particular.no i havn't got a dog for 1 reason, can't give it the time and attention a pet needs through both out at work all day-night.i'm not a dog hater, but what i do dislike are people who rant on about their dogs, treat them like kids, have so much to say how a dog should be tret and then put it in a kennel so they can have a better time without the dog.if thats the case why have a dog in the first place.it's like putting the kids somewhere while we all go off and enjoy ourselves without them.

and as far as it's better than leaving the dog in the awning or caravan, that shouldn't even be a thought.i don't want to upset anyone but thats my feelings on the matter

I do understand your feelings on the matter and if I was putting the dog in kennels for more than the day time I would have to agree.

In 2 weeks the dog spends on average 4 days in kennels and no nights. He is there for his protection only while we do things he cannot join in. If we where at home he would be in the house or garden and not a kennel.

I must also point out that Toby is a dog. Yes a member of the family but in no way equal to our children. He is a pet who's company we enjoy. He is important enough to use to ensure his safty (hense the kennels and not leftt in the van or awning) but I am commited to enjoying my time with the family with and without him present.

It boils down to this.

We want him on our holiday if possible but we also want to do things with our children. If he is not able to join us at these times then we will ensure his safty and well being by paying for him to be in the care of others.

Do you have children? have you ever used a baby sitter?

Hi Sally, This might seem silly but rather than go for Kennels have you ever thought of asking any site if they offer a dog service, whereas you are able to leave your dog in caravan, someone would look after it maybe take it for walks etc, just a thought.

Regards Liz

hi all

just read this thread and had to have two pennies worth??

to me dogs are like kids? once you have them they are your responsibility, we take our dog (a little cairn terrier *****) every where we go wether its for a day out or for a holiday we never leave her with anybody else, apart from the fact that she's a nasty little thing and would bite anyone in jaw range if we were not there.

we have one simple rule if we can't take the dog we dont go there, if they dont want our dog they dont want our money.

is suprising when we are out and about just how many places will take dogs if you ask, pubs, clubs, cafes, restaraunts, just about any where we want to go.

ok so sometimes we have to sit outside but thats no hardship as I prefer to do that anyway so I can smoke (cough, cough, splluter) next time you are away just ask you may be supprised.

colin

ps. nice to see you back with us liz you have been missed.

Thanks everyone for their comments, especially moderator 3 who understood my dilema perfectly as i also have children. The pubs and clubs are'nt the problem, after travelling many miles its nice to visit places of interest and unfortunatly many of these places won't even have dogs in their grounds, for instance National Trust properties, which we all find interesting but i can assure that my dog's would not find histrorical architecture of any interest what so ever!!! Didn't know i'd touch such a raw nerve with a certain person(can anybody guess who!). Look forward to any more comments on the subject, havn't had such a good laugh for ages!!!

I thought the original post was very responsible, and sensible. I had never given a thought to the possibility that it might be feasable to put dogs to kennels as a day-boarder.

I can't understand whey some people think that because one doesn't do something "their" way, then it must be wrong! Live and let live, for goodness sake.

Personally I wouldn't put my dogs in kennels, not even for one day. That doesn't mean I have to condemn those who do, we all have different reasons. I know for certain two of mine would pine and I don't believe in putting them through that. Some dogs are O.K. in kennels so theres no problem. Klarky says he's not anti dog but in past posts when dogs have been debated he has posted anti dog comments. If he doesn't like dogs fair enough but please don't hide the dislike by blaming others for how they look after their pets. Klarky has children, like most of us have had at sometime but I'm sure he wouldn't like it if others were critical of him on how he brings up his children.

Sally, because you have had one negative response it doesn't mean you have to stop asking questions in the forum. From klarky's reply I thought he must have typed it early in the morning and someone had peed in his Weetabix making him grumpy but that wasn't the case :O(
