In view of the many threads and posts this week about forums and their moderation, good and not so good, I thought it might be an apt time to advertise for a new moderator for the PCV website!

We are looking for:

a caravanning enthusiast,

a regular long-term contributor to this forum,

someone who spends a lot of time online every day,

has the wisdom of Soloman and the patience of a saint.

The job is unpaid (apart from a free subscription to PCV), often thankless, but vital for the fair and smooth running of debates, especially when they become heated.

You can choose to moderate under your current username, or have

a separate anonymous Mod identity.

If you are interested, please email me, quoting your username.

For security reasons you will be asked in confidence for your

full name, home address and telephone number, which will be

verified.

Poisoned chalise if ever there was one!

Wouldn`t have the time and probably not the temperament, but best of luck to the eventual appointee.

Hi Mods,

In your current role you will have seen the way the owners of screen names cope with controversy and the ups and downs of the forum. Past behaviour will perhaps allude to some attributes that would make a suitable moderator - so rather than just a general invitation how about emailing those contributors who you think might be suited.

A personal invitation may engender a positive response. You have access to the email addresses.

Hi John L how right you are! I know I have upset a dealer in the past and if I were to consider the Mods job then I think I may value my anonymity. A very god suggestion.

Over to you mods.

Cheers

Alan

If I can stick my tu'pennorth of advice in please.

I'm, and have been, a Moderator at a large Gaming/Chat site for some years where it is live chat and gaming. There must be about 80 of us all told.

In my experience the Mods who choose to stay anonymous face more problems than those who don't.

I have a +Token on my nic as a Moderator and a different nic if chatting/playing. The point is everyone knows I'm a Mod and I feel I gain more respect from that. Those that go anonymous are seen as faceless figures of authority and have far more problems to contend with.

When moderating I treat all the same, friends as well, and if they cuss or argue they get the 2 warning/gag/boot like all others.

Just a thought because if people know who the Mod is it breaks the ice and people don't attack them. You only have to look at when Steve was Mod 3, he had far less problems.

Anyway, that's my experience of being a Moderator and everyone knowing who I am.
