We would like to try skiing but as I,m not ready to give up my summer sun yet thought we would just have a week in Feb. Are there any resorts were the ski lifts are cheap (or even better free). As there are 6 of us and it will only be 4 days skiing we don't want to spend megabucks. Can anybody recommend any good sites - not bothered which country, we'll go anywhere. Thanks Claire & Anthony

Claire, try Camping Jungfrau at Lauterbrunnen in Switzerland, near Interlacken. Penty of pistes nearby, but I don't think there's such a thing as cheap skiing, is there? We went in March 2 years ago. You can easily walk to the station which gives direct access to the slopes & lifts, but nothing's cheap in Switz (except fuel, which was about 20p litre less than UK)Great facilities, the shower blocks have undefloor heating, and the site staff are very helpful. They'll site the van for you as when we went the site roads were covered in about 30 cms of snow. The main roads were clear though. If you go to Switz, don't forget to buy a Vignette (motorway pass) before you go.

Hi Claire,

You could try Camping Le Versoyen in Bourg Saint Maurice. It's 600 miles from Calais - a long way for 4 days ski-ing but a lot cheaper than renting an apartment in Feb. If you go during the half term school holidays in Feb this is the most expensvive time of the year.

Anyway, it's close to Les Arcs which is linked to La Plagne forming the Paradiski ski area - the second biggest ski area in the world so plenty of choice.

As Mike says there is no such thing as cheap or free ski-ing and everywhere is expensive, so be prepared to fork out loads of dosh !!! Average cost for a simple lunch for 6 (we are a family of 6 so I know) in a mountain restaurant is approx
