I have a sky box and sky satellite dish and having problems getting it to work. I also have a signal finder that works great for just the normal 5 channels but I cannot get or find any signal when I try to set up for sky.
I have a metal pole that is for attaching the satellite dish to and when I try to plug in the co-axial cables nothing, no signal or picture.
Has anyone had similar situation and if so how did you remedy the problem or does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to get my system working.
Maybe someone knows of a web site that has full and easy to follow instructions on how to set up my dish and sky box with a caravan or where I can get a set up guide for caravans.
Thank you to members of this forum who send me a helpful reply.

Did you make the cables up yourself, or did you buy them ready made.
If you made them yourself check all of the connections.

To help you find the direction to point your dish, have a look at this

You say you have a signal finder which works for the normal five channels but not sky.Is the finder a satellite signal finder or terrestrial signal finder since one will not find the other and vice versa.

Hi mullsy1,
Thanks for replying and to answer you the signal finder I brought should work for both terrestrial and satellite signal as there is a switch to change for whichever signal I am trying to locate.

Got ye.I take it the 1-5 channels you can get are terrestrial digital.I normally point the dish east then slowly turn it towards the south. The first satellite you pick up should be the Astra 2 sats.

When you are setting up does SWMBO watch the screen for the
Network ID 0002
Transport stream o7d4
Actually before I go any further it would be useful if you could explain exactly what you do?
We've used sky for 10 years now and even I have been amazed at the places we have got a signal.

As stated above, are you using the system set up page to align disk. This page is available, regardless of dish position. I presume the sky box you are using is servicable? Unless you have got sky at home, try substituting your box for a friends known servicable box. My used sky box and 60cm dish and satellite finder, all for £25 off of e-bay, has worked all over northern europe, and down as far as Valencia, so you do not need expensive equiptment to get a signal. Again, website Satellite for Caravans is the bible.
Good Viewing(hopefully)!!

Hi there Peter I have been using my sky dish for 8 years now and have just upgraded to sky + hd I bought sky dish and tripod of eBay for £20.00 it came with a compass with a green file and red set line for astra 2 that's the satellite sky use it only took me 10 minutes to set up first time now I don't use compass now I just look at other caravans see were they are pointing point my dish and turn onto signal test in services on my sky box and hey presto it's straight on I also take my sky box from home so I get my sky world package while away don't miss a thing.

Peter

Everything everybody has said I would agree with I have a sat dish on the roof of the caravan and a stand alone for watching TV if the roof cant get a picture due to tree obstructions.

The only other comment I would make is when setting up tune your box into SKY NEWS before searching. the reason being SKY NEWS omits the strongest signal of any of the channels on Astra 2 and therefore will lock on easier than the others.
My only other comment would be to purchase snap on connectors for dish and receivers it saves time screwing on the connector and gives a better connection.
They are about 20p each

John
