Can anyone tell me if the Sky Plus Box I have at home will work off one link from the sateellite dish.

I realise I would not be able to view one channel and record another at the same time, but would I be able to view any selected channel?

Hi Dave,

You should also be able to record with your Sky+ digibox if you change the LNB on your dish to a double or quad as if you were at home.

Graham can you fill me in on recording from Sky digibox. Only I thought you could not record from Sky?

I only record what is on the video box i.e. 1,2,3,4 and 5

Dont konow if you are serious, but Sky+ records within the box itself onto a hard drive. If you want to record sky on a video Connect a scart lead from the vcr scart socket on the back of the skybox to the scart in socket on the vcr. Tune vcr on free channel to sky box and record whatever is playing on the sky box.

Hi Edd,

Colin beat me to it, but yes you can record with Sky plus, as Colin said if you have a Sky plus box it has a built in hard drive, you will see two cables going into the digibox one for viewing sky, and the other for recording what ever you want to on sky.

I have just set up a multiroom sky system at home, we now have sky in each of the bedrooms as well as our living room. I bought a quad LNB and three secondhand digiboxes from ebay and wired them all up from the sat dish, each room can now watch a different sky program if needed, great for the kids and wife!!!!

Thanks Colin ang Graham.

I just have Sky freeview is that any difference?

At the moment the video is connected to an aeral but has a bad picture, thats why we had Sky for our main viewing.

I wasn't aware that you could copy off Sky.

Hi Edd,

If you connect your digibox to your video recorder via a scart plug then connect your video recorder to your tv via a scart plug you should be able to record from sky "BUT" you can only record the program you are watching, or if you are going out then set your recorder to record a program that you have tuned you sky digibox into.

I'm not 100% sure but I think you have to tune your video recorder into an AV1 or AV2 channel, when you use a scart plug on your tv it automatically goes into AV1.

As we said before a sky plus digibox has a built in hard drive, your digibox is a basic model and does not have a hard drive for recording.

I never use our ariel anymore, all the tv signal comes from the sky dish a far better picture, I have a basic subscription from sky

Colin I know that but I was answering the posting above

I use Sky+ in the van but as you so rightly say it needs 2 inputs and a subscription

I have sometimes when using a tripod and dish equipped with quad LNB even used multi room in the van if you count my friend's van next door!!

Why use a chunky Sky+ mains only box when you can get a Pace 1000 Minibox which works on 12V? However, yes, you can use just one of the inputs to get a reception but you won't be able to record to the hard drive or "watch and record"

A couple of clarifications here.....

Freeview is NOT Sky. Freeview is the digital service which requires an aerial and not a dish.

The satellite (and dish) equivalent is Free-to-air (without a card) or Freesat (with a card costing

There is avery good reason for taking a chunky Sky+ box

You can then watch the end of all the programmes you fell asleep in and also watch the premium chanels if you are paying for them anyway

My wife is a football fanatic so its got to be the box from home !!

You need 2 inputs and a quad or twin LNB to record a channel you are not watching and to watch another channel while one is being recorded but I just tried it and you can record the channel you are watching with one input or you can play back previously recorded channels with no input

Colin when I tried it(now) Sky+ would not work without the card if you wanted to record but it will allow you to use the box to view the BBC1 etc free channels

Hi Barking

You can record with a single lead in as I've just checked

If you are recording and try to watch another channel you get the no sat signal is being received message but you could record something to watch later and you can pause

Funny thing John, I have three Sky+ boxes all of which seem to work normally. 2 of them let me do what you say 1 will not.

Colin.
