Sleeping Babies and caravans

Hi

I was looking for some advice on what babies can sleep in in a caravan. I have a nearly 8 month old son who will be nearly 9 months when we come to use a caravan but I'm not sure what he will sleep in at night ie a cot or similar. Was hoping someone could let me know what they do or have done.

Hi Amy;When my son was that age we bought a travel cot which we put by the bed and was taken down in daytime

We used a pop up cot for our granson when he was that age. It will only take a baby up to about 15-18 months as they can easily roll them when they are mobile.

Our six month old sleeps in a junior sized sleeping bag ( a Vango 'Nitestar' - from Go Outdoors). No problems.

I find a normal bed guard is a perfect fit on the rear side seat on our 5 berth. I secure it to the slats under the cushion with 2 thick rubber bands

we first took my son away (at the time in a Motorhome) when he was a little over a year old and he's slept in a kids sleeping bag.

The only thing we've had to do was turn the bottom 3rd under as it was too long for him (to stop he wiggling down to the bottom of the bag - he's a bit of a tunneller and we have to do this with his duvet at home as well).

The layout of the MH was a rear lounge and side dinette , juniors bed was the side dinette (which was a double) and we placed a row of cushions on the outside of the bed to stop him rollng off. We also placed a fitted sheet over the cushions / bed to stop him either pushing the cushions off or getting underneath them.

Worked for us but he is a very good sleeper and doesn't roam around in bed too much.

Hi all

Noticed everyone seems to be managing up until 18 months for places for babies to sleep, what about after that age. Just purchased a caravan and have two children 4 and 17 month. Where do we put the 17 month old as he moves around a lot and has a tendancy to stand up even in a baby sleeping bag which we use at home to. Would really appreciate some ideas.

what sort of layout do you have?

we've got a caravan with an end lounge which we've designated as my sons 'bedroom' as it were. Its a 5 berth van and the end lounge makes up into a double with a bunk over that.

We make the bed up for him at night and then close the concertina door. We're probably lucky that he goes to sleep and sleeps very soundly with little fuss. But the bed layout is huge you could probably sleep 3 younger kids side by side and still have room to spare.

We have found that we still have to keep his routine the same even though the environment is different if we dont do the same as at home he will try it on.

Another trick was to allow him some small posters up (mainly on the wooden wall of the bathroom) that he chose and makes him think its his bed room. Be careful of putting stuff on the actual walls as the lining could get damaged even with blu-tak.

Favourite teddy bears etc etc all help. If he's good at home try a replicate as much as what you do at home.

We have a fixed end bed but have to say haven't yet measured if travel cot will fit, he is a really good sleeper but I think if he has freedom to move he will. Also my concern with the travel cot is if he can reach any thing.
