sleeping in caravan

i suffer from sciatica and wondered if anyone had tried the memory foam mattress overlays on the front dinette beds when made up and whether they are any good

Nicola,

Sorry to hear that. We have a memory foam mattress at home, and it's great.

We make up the main sleeping area in our Eriba Triton as two large single beds, each has a slatted bed base and interior sprung cushions.

But these German designed beds are quite hard, so rather than memory foam toppers, we bought two egg-crate foam toppers (about 2" deep) and the advantage of the egg-crate is that in the Summer you get some additional airflow.

I found in my old caravan that the foam seats were not supportive enough and my hip tended to bruise on the bed base. The problem has been completely solved by the use of a 2 inch memory foam topper. During the day it is kept under the seat foam so that it provides extra thickness for sitting. I can thoroughly recommend the use of one.

I've suffered with back problems for several decades.

The bed in our old Ace, which we had for 18 years, was wonderful. The foam was just 4" deep so you could feel the solid base underneath. My back was so much better after a week in the caravan.

The bed in our current Pageant is 6" deep, sprung upholstery, which is much nicer to sit on but far too soft and unsupportive to sleep on. When it's really bad I sleep on the floor!

I'm seriously considering "throwing away" our present cushions and having some firm, thin, foam cushions made up!

HiNicola

Our caravan bed was too hard. Bought 2" memory foam mattress and it has made a huge difference. Stores neatly rolled up under the seat during the day, and would thoroughly recommend one.
