sorry it is so slow i hit the save button and nothing so i hit again still nothing but it came up twice.
slow i have seen faster snails, some body needs to throw another log on steam powered thing running the computer that end.
just watched a snail go across the decking to the plants some 10 yards away,hes had a good feed and strolls back.Huuummm thats slow he waves as he goes buy and giggles at me still on the same pc forum page as i was on when he set out.
This reminds me of a puter I had about ten years ago. God it was slow, but in those days it was fast. Dosen't time fly!!!

I wasn't suggesting that forum members test the speed of their broadband.
Damian and myself were discussing in another topic the slowness of the website.

Luckily for me the forum topics load time is only between three and five seconds, fairly normal. I mentioned that my Virgin Broadband connection is only the cheapo version, about 2mb while Damian's is running at around 18mb. If my broadband was of the same speed and capacity as Damian's this computer wouldn't need a mouse or keyboard - it would work by using telepathy!
I hit 'Save' in the other thread and then clicked to this thread then I entered a post which said 'Parksy (speed test)' which was all that I could think of at the time.
I think that the time elapsed between clicking Save on the other thread, switching to this one, typing my words, clicking Save on THIS thread and the post loading etc was about 1 minute 9 seconds.
If you take into account my useless two finger typing speed and less than perfect manual dexterity coupled by the relatively low speed of my own broadband connection then the 'loading speed' for me on this website is fairly normal.
That being the case if Haymarket webtechs can identify the difference between my set up and Damians or others who are experiencing very low forum speed they might be able to solve the problem

That explaines it then. Well done Steve, LOL (smiley face thingy laughing his head off while bending down) if you know what I mean LOL
I've come back for another quick (ha!! if ever there was a contradiction in terms.....lol) peek and - amazingly - it does seem to be marginally quicker now, with pages taking a second or two less to load than yesterday. I'm on IE, Windows (erm 7 I think but don't quote me on it), Vista and speed of 6 mb, if anybody's interested. Curiously, I can access the site (and pages) quicker on my mobile phone than on the computer. Explain that! (in simple blonde terms, please *winking and/or fluttering eyelids icon thingy*).
The speed difference will mainly depend on whether you are logged in or out, (it will be quicker when looged out.)

I have to disagree with you there Austin. Every time that I post anything on this website I'm logged in, the time of day or night makes no difference and my experience is that the website loads at close to 'normal' speed as I tried to demonstrate to Damian last night.austin said:

I wonder if the closer to London one is, the faster it is, or, being on the Island, whether the tide being in or out makes a difference?
As for the mention of "cloud" hosting, we had, and still have lots of cloud, but it makes not a ha'penth of difference.
Its still slower than a sloth on drugs.

Don't want to boast, but its fine here along with my rusty trusty puter and 2mb speed, no slower then anything else (great big grinning icon)

I am online now 4.10 pm on the 10th I am on Old Computer with Windows XP with Google Chrome and with up to 8 meg download speed with o2 Broadband and it is very quick no problems at all. Last night on my Laptop it was very quick too with same Broadband and Vista with IE8..
Why is the site so S L O W ? The only other site that is as slow as this was BBC Weather when they decided to 'improve' their site.
Come on tech guys, things are supposed to be getting faster not slower.

It seems at least one of my colleagues is getting much better speed reponse than I do here in rural Somerset where the 'final mile' is probably binder twine. However, and it's a big 'however' the other sites I use regularly do not appear to suffer from this difficulty using the same browser (IE8) running in W7. Not only is the initial download very very slow, but any use of the Back button or arrow is almost long enough for a tea break.
The site was down for a while earlier this evening but is now back up (obviously). (Another) however, the postings now appear to be scrambled in order and are not in any particular date order as you can see just looking down the thread lists, or trying one. Is there some subtle difference between Post Reply (left hand side) and just Reply - right hand side ?
