not really, but would simplify things if you have any problems downloading - also Microsoft also like to "control" installations, i.e. force you to run an installation direct from the website. not that this is a problem, but not something I personally like doing.

if you would like the disk leave a message here, I'll get mods to pass on my email to you - I leave work in about 30 mins, golfing tonight....

Hi Mark unfortunately the SP2 disc would not work as it has some sort of marks on it.I will have to revert to loadong from the website when my son who is more IT capable than me is here.In the meantime how do I switch off/on the virus programme.

really sorry about that, I have used that disk before so assumed it would be ok but it may have got scratched...

depending which AV software you have, there should be an icon in the system tray (bottom right-hand corner, next to time) - if you right-click on it there should be an option to "exit" the software.

for instance, if I right-click on AVG in the system tray it gives me the option to "Quit AVG Control Center". once you restart your pc it will reload automatically.

Great I must be getting better at this IT lark I undersatnd how to do that!No problem with the disc it seemed ok but wouldn't do its thing.never mind the other disc will be very handy,thanks again for your help,no doubt i will be picking your brains again in the future.
