Small dent to side panel of caravan

Hi,

As the title suggests, I have managed to put a small knock in the side panel of my Swift. What is the best way of repairing?

It is the size of a 50p piece but is annoying me knowing its there. Do I fill it then paint or try & pop it out.

Hello James, sorry to hear about the dent.

I can't help much regarding how to repair the dent but, depending where on the side of the caravan the damage is, many caravanners put a side reflector or even a false vent panel to cover small dinks in panels, it would be cheaper than having a repair done, and the problem with diy repairs is that you could end up making things worse.

Hi,

I used some manufacturers self adhesive pin stripe to mask a small dent. You would not notice that the van's stripes look diffrent to any other Bailey Pageant.

James I put a small dent in the side of the vanwith the cenre pole from my awning right near the awning rail. I used an orange reflector stuck it over the dent it looks like it should be there as they are along the bottem of the side panel and no dent.

if it has not perforated the panel a small stick on reflector works well,did on ours.

Hi James. Follow the advice already posted ie disguise it in some way . As a retired panel beater/ sprayer I can guarantee you'll not push the dent out. The panel is aluminium which stretches and remains in that form, unlike steel (as with a car body panel) which retains some elasticity enabling a dent to be 'popped out'.

I'd advise against filling and patch-spraying as almost all caravan panels are prefinished before they are used to build the van. As such, a reliable paint code for mixing is not usually available to the diy sector.

Any attempt to match the colour will leave you with a large blemish rather the the current, presumably smaller, one.

ALso, if it's a new van think about the warranty. Dave.

If you do want to fix it, modern Swift caravans from the last couple of years are painted Fiat white to match the cabs of their motorhomes. The paint code is 249 Bianca White (Fiat) or EWP (Peugeot)

Go with the flow and use a small reflector, same on other side to balance it up. I've done the same myself with an awning pole. When I traded the van in the dealer never mentioned a thing.

As I said,Dougie, 'a reliable paint code' is not always available. Howmany variants are there of 249 Fiat Bianca. I know howmany there are of EWP - I've sprayed gallons of it. Get the wrong variant in the middle of a panel and it sticks out like a sore whatsit. I'm with the other contributors; stick something over it - or get a pro to do it! Dave.
