Snow on lying on caravan roofs

Strange question to ask at this time of the year, but to be serious, no. What potential adverse effect were you thinking of? The only problem that I could conceive would be if the roof were subjected to such a heavy load of snow that it has become dented, but that should be plainly obvious if it has happened. However, I can't imagine that such a condition would typically be encountered under normal conditions.

Lutz - I should have mentioned that I am likely to be in Bavarian Alps this coming winter and will be leaving my Hobby there unoccupied for some time. It will have several feet of snow on the roof probably for many weeks. I believe Hobby design their roofs with this possibility in mind and I am not unduly concerned but welcome other opinions. Thanks for yours BTW.

Will the caravan be left unattended on a caravan site? If so, it may be worth talking with the warden or manager if he could arrange for some of the load to be removed for a small charge if conditions become unusually severe.

this last winter i like hundreds of others had a layer of snow over 6 inch on roof,i was not content that all that weight would not damage the roof.for this reason i removed it carefuly with a long brush so as not to damage the skylights.

David - we spent many years in Garmisch Partenkirchen during the winter with our van, friend's van was there for the whole winter. No problems. Friends keep their van in Bourg St Maurice for the winter (all vans UK manufactured) . the only thing any of us do is clear the awning roof and make sure the outlet for the fire is clear of snow before lighting. Most sites normally offer an awning roof clearing service or know of someone who does this (usually teenagers earning some extra cash).
