Solar briefcase charger, Maplins

I see Maplins are again selling a 13watt solar charger for just under ∂£50.Good units producing about 1amp, includes leads and regulator so I got a second one now.Just ensure you connect the leads properly with what they are labeled for as its easy to mix them up and blow the regulator.

Would this provide enough to keep a battery topped up, if I wired it to the battery, and jammed it under the remi roof light?

Good value for money but dont expect 1 amp from them more like 3/4 's in direct sunlight,it would top up a battery very slowly but you would comsume more than replenish if using the van quite easily.

Hello Don,

This was dealt with recently, with some expert advice from Sproket and others, on a thread that started on the 4th March. It will be worth having a look at the comments, as they appeared to be very pertinent to this subject.

Cheers George, yes I did see that interesting post. I have used my original Maplin 1 for a couple of years now for weekends at da meets etc and for longer term doubled up with a 15w one that I had from way back. Managed to get 10 days out of my 110ah battery and I find that the briefcase ones are easy to store away unlike my original tall unit which i now have on the shed roof just to trickle charge when not away in van.
