Hi - does anyone have any advice please. I have some damp, poss old leak at outside corner of my shower, near base of sink. Some small areas of wooden shower surround seem a bit spongey and have black mould in the little round screw fixings. I don't know if I need to replace the whole wooden shower door surround or even if I can - it's a Lunar Venus 500/4 . I'll add some pics to the thread if I can - many thanks20210807_154242.jpg20210807_154232.jpg20210807_154232.jpg

Hi Martin. I am no use to you but if you don’t get many replies here, try reposting (or asking Mods to move this thread) in Technical section. May get more attention there.
Good luck

Thanks Mel - I'm quite new to caravanning and this forum so thanks for your advice to move to Technical section. I think someone has kindly moved it already so fingers crossed I might get some help. Thanks again- Martin

Looking beyond the wood, at the point where shower floor meets its wall, there looks to be a joint, and looking at the outside damp and swollen wood, my first thoughts are that is where the problem lies. I suspect you may have far more damage behind the wooden plinth affecting the caravan floor. I hope not, but its reasonable to assume that is what you will find.

Hi - thanks for coming back to me. Yes, we also suspected that this could be worse than first appears. If it's worse, do you know what any solutions might be. For example, do you think we'll have to replace the whole shower? We're going to get the guy who serviced it to take a look at it shortly. Thanks again ! Martin

Sorry, can't help you with a fix, its beyond my skills. What advice I would give you though is get a couple of opinins rather than the first.

There will be others along soon that have faced and repaired things like this, so keep checking the thread and good luck with it.

Like others I think there are three suspects...
Carefully check all the sealant between the shower tray and the walls
but check also from inside and from underneath around where the plug hole and pipework leave the shower tray to the exterior
and depending how it is fitted the pipework feeding the tap unit.
Unless there is a crack in the tray I think it is unlikely that a replacement is needed - again check the potential stress areas for example around the plughole.
There are difficulties here in getting access to the area beneath the shower in order to dry out the area so Good Luck!

Thanks so much for coming back to me and all your advice. I'm not the best in the world at applying sealant so I'm going to get a plumber in to replace it all and he can maybe check the joins and plughole etc - thanks again 👍

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but looking carefully at the photos it looks like there has been substantial water damage.

The flooring looks stained by Pink flush additive which indicates a spill of some kind , either concentrate or a problem with the toilet.

Also evident is what looks like black mould on the caravan wall below that shelf? looking item and what looks like water droplets on the plinth.

The lower edge of the plinth simply looks wrong, it does not sit right and assuming the round apertures on the top of the shelf? are the fixings, then they should be underneath out of sight, so someone has had problems in the past and refitted "upside down"

You say about getting a plumber in to do some work, but a general plumber will not know how caravans are put together and is not the way to go.

You need a good caravan engineer who knows the ins and outs of caravans and knows what adhesives etc to use.
