1. The notorious shortcut around Zaragoza between Magallon and La Alumina is now fully surfaced (has been terrible for years) and saves miles if going to Calatayud / Savinan

2. The Autoroute Irun to St Vincent de Tyrosse is south west France has become very expensive at least 20euros for car+van

Other autoroutes in France seem to have put up the Class 2 tolls as well.

3. Some French autoroute tool boths are now unmanned, but seem to accept UK credit cards OK - unlike French petrol pumps.

4. In contrast to previous years, Guarda Civil in ;the Mojacar / Garrucha areas of SE Spain have become very random breathalyser happy - stoppages common particularly alte afternoon early evening.

5. Local Spanish press claim GC are now considering any Sat Nav visibile to driver to be illegal - you need to rely on voice only prompts. Hand held phones are supposed to be illegal but are in widespread use - beware the HGV weaving about on the road.

Most / all of this is probably old news to many, but may be useful to someone going for first time.

I think you will find the Sat Nav report is slightly inacurate.

Some nutty Spanish groups want to ban Sat Nav and you could get in trouble if you adjust the satnav via touch screen the same as you will using a mobile phone in Spain whilst driving, using speed cam data base is another no no.

Unless the law is very new I don't think the report is correct.

Our friends are just back from caravan holiday in Spain and were relieved of all cash and some jewellery near Madrid when stopped for supposed drug search.

They had stopped to consult the map when 3 smartly dressed men carried out a bogus search and pocketted the above items

This refers to using the touch screen or buttons on a satnav. Most Satnavs have a safety option whare they can not be adjusted whilst driving unless you manualy over ride the system.

Sat nav is not the same as viewing Corrie or Terminator 2 on a DVD player!

We had work at Barcelona only last month and my chaps had no comment or problem with police re Satnav and nor did anyone else where they were working and they had to go past Spanish police each day.

Satnavs sold in Spain are no different to here according to my sources so why they would be sold in Spain if they were illegal.

Being guided by Satnav and fiddling with it whilst driving are two different issues !

There are various things (in the way of personal protection) which are sold in Spain and not illegal to own but illegal to use. Until recently the FM short range transmitters for Ipod etc. to car radio were available in Uk to buy but illegal to use, so the Spanish are not alone with such illogical thinking.
