Had our caravan away two nights ago!!!!
Broke into the compound where they were stored and nicked two caravans and broke into some others.
They drove into a adjacement field, went round the outside in the oppisite way of the buildings, so as not to disturb the farm owner. They then cut down a section of wooden fence and hedgerow. Then pulled 2 metal posts out of the ground that were concreted in about 4 foot possibly with a hiab, and levelled off some ground. Then broke through the next gate and done the dirty!!!
Hitchlock and alarm on van but to no avail.
Absolutely fuming!! Only had it for a year and only used it for 6 nights due to a tow car situation, which culminates in a small claims court next week!
Insurance job now, but its going to be hard to find one in that good condition for the money again.
It was a 2010 Coachman Wanderer lux, four berth beauty.

Really sorry to hear of your troubles. Sounds like they were well equiped for the job and had it pre-planned. Its a shame, but as we all know, if they really intend to take it it will go.

From what I hear, but no experience, most of the caravan insurers are decent to deal with, and as long as you have complied with any clauses, it should be fairly swiftly settled. As you say though, if you are trying to replicate the van you lost, both in model and condition it can be a hard task.

Strangely enough, I was in pub near Ivanhoe Bedfordshire, and a local had said that 4 caravans had been taken from their gardens, . YOUR , caravan is not safe, If they want it they will have it. One Forum member said they fit a "JCB " or some thing like it, a winter wheel clamp. They will just take it away.

Sorry to hear of your loss. There are some people who will stop at nothing to take a caravan, although I am at a loss to understand why yours was the one taken. It is a very nice caravan but in most storage sites there are newer and more valuable ones but logic is not always useful in these situations.
Let us know how the insurance claim goes.

It would be better if the actual name of the site was withheld, don't forget that other caravans may be stored there and the storage site may be targeted again.

Another one was taken and that was about 5 yrs old. I suppose older vans dont look so out of place on some sites Others were broken into as well.
Have heard that some vans are stolen due to 'scrote ends' needing replacement parts for their own vans that are the same make, as I believe furnishings etc are not nornaly generic.
I also won't be naming the site as its not fair to other owners who store their vans there.

I am afraid there are no rules to caravan theft. Sometimes the simplest defence will work and at others nothing seems to stop them and yours looks to fall in this category. The most at risk are large twin axle models but nothing is totally safe and you can only do your best to protect yours.
I take it the break ins were to see if there was anything valuable inside, we leave all the curtains and blinds open and cupboards open so that it is clear there is not as the best defence, there but even that might not be enough.
Many people do take out the soft furnishings as a way of protecting the caravan and this does seem to work as then there is no point in taking it if you have to find another similar model to get them. In that case you might as well take the one with them in.
I have known one case of the furnishings being stolen from a dealers caravan, but that was a large Hobby and there was little doubt it was travelers who had been looking at it a couple of days earlier. It was assumed they had a similar model and needed to replace the furnishings.
