From Nemours, south of Paris, to Nevers you'll pay around 14 euros in tolls on the A77 according to mappy - although there are stretches of it which are toll-free. The A77 is just a 'normal' French autoroute, I would imagine not much different to the A71. There are alternative N or D roads on this section though. The N7 is currently toll free but they are upgrading the road south of Nevers and it may then become 'toll'. From the N7 you need to take the D2009 or the D46 towards St Pourcain sur Sioule, then continue on the D2009 to join up with the free autoroute at Riom (where you might pay 1 euro to take you to the start of the free section at Clermont Ferrand). There are ways to avoid this toll but you'll need a Michelin map and take the alternative D roads.

The A75 south from Clermont Ferrand has many long uphill stretches, and reaches 1,200 metres at one point (as high as Mount Snowdon) but there are no hairpins, and plenty of 'slow lanes' if you run out of puff! Coming down after the Pas de L'escalette has to be one of the best runs in France. Coming back up again is a long uphill haul!
