Southern Ireland anyone?

We've been chatting with some friends who've just come back from three weeks in Southern Ireland but not caravaning.

We've never been but it got Mrs V curious about taking the caravan there.

Has anyone done that? Are there good sites; what are the roads like for towing etc. Is it compulsory to drink Guinness...yuk!

Never been there with the caravan, but a lovely place, weather when We were there was always " Softish" food is great, Murphys stout is available slightly sweeter than UK Guinness, Irish Guinness is a much nicer drink. And never take your Drink from the bar until the barman says it's yours.

We didn’t take the caravan but hired cottages. We stayed in Glenbeigh on the Ring and there were nice sites in the vicinity. Our other location was An Spiddal on Galway Bay. We travelled extensively around those two areas and in general the roads were fine for caravans or motorhomes. Like here though you need to check your route.

My avatar are the two dogs facing the rising sun on Galway Bay. Lovely area, but ferry was expensive just fir a car.

We go every year, normally Fishguard,-Rosslare. Just come back Dublin - Holyhead. It was very different😱.
Fishguard and Rosslare are much more relaxed 😉

Motorways are generally empty😉
N roads are fine, R a bit smaller, L roads can be a hair-raising experience 😱
Speed limit is 80km when towing.
It's not cheap, food is generally more expensive than at home.

Has a campsite and the food is to die for.

All get busy at weekends and holidays.

If you search on Google maps for caravan sites, many that come up are static van sites so you have to pick and choose 🤔

We went in 2016 with the caravan arriving at Rossclare and travelled across to the west coast. The road was appalling and one of the worst national roads we have travelled on. Caravan parks where we stayed were very nice.

However the good news is that we hardly saw anyone drinking Guinness in any of the pubs as it is probably too expensive. We never ate out either so cannot comment on restaurants and prices. However either way a great country to visit when it wasn't raining. No wonder it is called the Emerald Island.

We have been really lucky for the last 3 years only one or two days of rain in 6 weeks over there. Plenty of night time rain but that's not a problem.

We went in early September so that could have been the issue. Ireland is well worth a visit.

It is definitely worth the trip if you do not eat or drink out often.
