Ok here's the daft question, You are on the m/way, the speed limits 70, your doing 60 , the posted speed limit for the road drops to 50 does that mean you have to do 10mph less than that?(did that make sense?)
No it does not meen you have to drop to 10 mph lower Mo, on motorways the limit is 60 unless theire is a lower limit in force, on dual carriage ways with the national limit posted the limit is 60 unless a lower limit is in force, but on single carriage ways with the national limit posted you are limited to 50 unless of course a lower limit is in force. One thing to bear in mind Mo, if you drop to 40 on the motorway you run a very real risk of being stopped by the police for "not making adequate progress" as 40 mph is regarded as too slow for the motorway. I am not too sure whether it is the law or just a recomendation though but some of you may remember the old couple who got a fixed penalty for doing 30 on the motorway, it was in most tabloids a few years ago.
Mo, if the speed on a Motorway is reduced, because of roadworks, for example, then the new limit applies.
They usually set a 50mph lower limit where both carriageways merge and are separated by cones alone, and as such , this part of the motorway becomes a dual carriageway, instead of motorway, and cars towing vans are allowed to travel at 50mph on such roads.Hope this helps
