Hi Benny,

You may have the same problem as me in that your speedo may wrong.

I have had mine checked out on a rolling road showing that it is 10% slow, so if I am traveling at 50mph, in reality I am only doing about 45.

As for jockey wheel touching the road I have seen others forget to wind them up, but if it is overloaded that is no excuse. The same goes for the idiot in the out side lane.

Untill there are police patrols back on the motorways & not the wannabys in yellow & black battenbourg 4x4s, all motorists are going to flout the law.

Graham,

I think that you will find your speedo is functioning correctly. In my experience they always show faster than your actual speed.

This is deliberate by the manufacturers who are being cautious because it is an offence to have a speedo which shows you are doing LESS than you actually are.

My speedo reads 30@28mph 50@47mph 60@56mph 85@80mph

Hope that makes sense.

On the motorway yesterday I was stuck behind two trucks side by side for about 5 miles before one got past, I was very tempted to go for the outside lane but for once I was good.

Blu,

There's not a hope in Hell that you would be prosecuted in the circumstances you describe.

You may of course become delayed and frustrated because the Police would want a witness statement from you.

I travelled the M5, M48 and M4 on Wednesday evening/night time and managed to keep to a steady 55-60mph as there was very little traffic and the weather was brilliant. Left Plymouth at approx 10:30pm and arrived in Bridgend at 1:35am Thursday morning - drove all the way without a stop as all my passengers were sleeping (lucky so and so).

Graham if your speedo is reading 10% LESS than your actual speed you are committing an offence so it will be worth getting the vehicle checked out.

A reading of 10% MORE than your actual speed is OK though.

Travelled M5/M42/A42/M1 yesterday.

Was passed twice (presumably he stopped somewhere) by a van with bracket strapped to the rear grab handles carrying childs bike.

The second time on the M1, he was travelling in the outside lane!

There were two incidents on the M5 involving caravans standing on the hard shoulder with severe damage. You would have expected that this might slow this chap down - but no.

Aside of this, I got home probably nearly as quick and achieved 33mpg in the process.
