Grill finally packed up this morning. Had problems earlier in the year with little flames. Toast took 20 minutes!
Last time used compressed air on burner holes with some success but not long lasting.
I think it must be the jet. No markings at all! So hard to decide size.
Reading other forums .65 mm or .62mm are favourite.
And views anyone on jet size and best way to clean the actual burner.?

Somewhere in my toolbox is a tool that is basically a pin on a handle that is designed for cleaning the burner, bit like using a pin to descale a shower head. Maybe your local camping shop will have one.

What time do the pre-breakfast exercises begin at Woosie Bridge?
I'm expecting to see rather less of both of you next time we meet, in the nicest possible way :p

I'll never reach your achievement Steve. Can't go years without real ale :(
I think this diet coke lark is a diuretic and a real rip off being 30p cheaper than a beer
Food has been fun and in truth enjoyable .No pies, fat chips , takeaways .Been on a fruit discovery path.eg Sharon fruits and other fat club approved things.
Hutch has been trying various fruit ciders. Can't find them in my book.Must complain to fat club for their omission :p

Everything in moderation Grasshopper
Non alcoholic beer such as Beck's Blue is low calorie / low sugar.
It's not the most pleasant of drinks, like diet Pepsi, there's only so much of that stuff that you can drink
Losing weight involves a lot of piddling, it's a good sign that your body is getting rid of toxins, and fruit becomes water so it's all good, you're not retaining the bad stuff :cheer:
Stick with it chaps, Woosie honour is at stake

Injectors in LPG appliances are not all just a straight through holes, some have internal steps or shaping to ensure the emerging gas has the correct velocity and splay to en-train and mix with air inside the venturi tube before it reaches the burner surface. Because they have pretty small bores and are made of brass or ceramic they can be very easily damaged . They should only be "pricked" with a tool of the right diameter and soft enough not to damage the internal bore.

A specific tool for cleaning gas burners is available on eBay. It is a number of various diameter wire brushes , like pipe cleaners, about 4" long. Looking closely at the grill burner it is a tube with lots of holes for the flames. Same. goes for the hob burners.
As far as the actual gas jet goes for the sake of £4.20 I've ordered a new one. You could clean the jet hole with a pin. However as it is soft brass you could inadvertently enlarge the hole.

A question, in our Coachman , our Thetford oven/ hob , when the grill is liighted the grill bar has a middle section of maybe 2 or three inches of a smaller flame , has been since new, is this normal. ???

That's how mine went last year and then got progressively worse until total failure.
Hatch. How long does it take to toast slice of bread? Does it brown evenly.
The grill burners rust internally which has caused my own problem and maybe yours :(

Hello Dusty,

Its not just the possibility of enlarging but also distortion, which can affect the direction the gas emerges and the way is mixes with the en-trained air reducing the quality of the final combustion.

Morning Prof
looking at the hob and grill burners by caravan standards they are fairly substantial pieces of steel. I doubt anything short of a screwdriver or ha.mer would cause distortion.
However you do raise a valid point. Would you clean the burner differently ?
As for the gas jet I do recommend this is renewed but watch the size.
I suspect the hardest job will be the removal of the rust inside the burner tube.

I thing you may have misunderstood my comment.

The distortion I refer to is the bore of the injector and in particular its exit port where the gas emerges. into the venturti. Damage to the injector bore and its exit surface can dramatically affect the way the gas emerges and thus how it will en-train and mix with the air inside the venturi. If an oversize pricker is used it can enlarge the injectors bore, and if its too hard or mishandled it can score the bore and damage the exterior end of the bore. becasue if the Benouli and coander effect damage on the exterior port and divert a the flow of the gas as it leaves the injector.

Actually Prof the only person on here who has mentioned pricking the bore of an injector is you
You will see from all my posts and indeed others the only pricking mentioned is using specific designed tools on the burners. I have consistently advised buying a new jet .There are various sizes available at circa £4.20.
0.62mm or 0.65mm are favourite.
Any advice on how to clean the actual burner please? :)

 Hello Dusty,

My mistake, I thought Keefeysher was describing an injector cleaner, after re reading I realise he wasn't. However my words of caution are still applicable for anyone considering having a go at the injector.

As for your more pressing question of how to clean the burner. As always I have to caution that working with gas appliances should be left to those with proven competency of gas work. That said, the best way to clean the burners is dependent on the construction and materials used and what is the nature of the blockage.

If the burner bar can be removed without disturbing the gas controls and injector, then a blow out with compressed air (outdoors) and I have often washed the bar with normal washing up liquid and a nylon bottle brush, rinsed and thoroughly dried before reassembling

Older cast iron burners (Showing my age now) a wire brush can be effective.

Thanks Prof. We have a consensus ad idem :)
The method of burner cleaning I had in mind is pretty well as you describe.
My son who is a gas engineer warns against using anything caustic as this could make bad matters worse .

Glad you asked that question Hutch, mine is like that also and it did have me wondering if there was a fault.

The new 0.65mm jet has been fitted. The grill burner decoked and thoroughly cleaned. All electrical connections correctly assembled and the gas joint remade and tested.
Amazing. In 8 years the grill has never worked so well. It even ignites using the electronic ignition.
The design of the burner tube is such that there are only holes at the front and rear whilst the centre section uses pressed blind cut outs which lead to a smaller flame pattern.
I used new star clips to secure the burner to the grill roof. You could reuse the old ones but why bother having gone so far.
