Split Air Con and weight on a window

Hey Guys,

After a few brutal days in British heat last year, I've purchased a split air con unit. This is the Mestic 3100, in total it weighs 19kg.

I know this won't provide ice cold air, but anything that can at least bring the caravan down to a more manageable temperature is better than nothing. My caravan is a 2015 Bailey Unicorn 2 berth. I plan on putting the air con on the front central window, so the interior part can sit on the table top, but the external part (which is the weightier section) will be hung from it's brackets on the window.

There is the option to also hang it from one of the windows over either sofa, but this might be a bit annoying for seating space and also not blow down the length of the caravan.

My query is whether this unit is too heavy for the window, or if there is an internal frame around there that will easily support the weight?

I don’t think it will be too heavy but the outside unit may be tipping backwards at the angle of the caravan front, which may be detrimental. However. I do know that someone sat theirs on the ‘A’ frame. This did mean making a simple stand for it. I have seen pictures, but I cannot find them now. If I do, I will add them.

I think Mr Plodd has one, he may advise.

I did find a picture of that when I did a google search, and went outside to look at my A Frame, but it may be a bit small to make something like that for the height it would need to reach. It's a shame they don't give you the option of, or pre fit, longer hoses between the units.

I haven't got the brackets yet, as I need ones that fit over the Bailey upwards blinds, but I was going to have a cloth or something behind the brackets to prevent any scratches or cosmetic damage, it's mainly the weight and if that would break my window or put a lovely air con shaped dent into the side wall

I do indeed have such a Eurorom unit (its for sale if anyones interested, £175 Theres no room in my PVC fir it)
I couldnt fit it to my Phoenix front window because the 2 units are permanently linked and as the front window only opens a small amount neither unit could feed through the small gap. I fitted it to the O/S side lounge window with no problem at all.
The umbilical between the two units isnt very long so if you have a wide opening front window then you will probably still need some sort of support frame as the umbilical isnt long enough to sit the external unit on the Aframe.

I wish I could find the picture. But from memory, the outer unit sat on a purpose made table. This may have straddled the A-frame. It gave enough height so the umbilical chord could reach.

Thank you for being realistic about you expectations for the unit. Too many people can be fooled by the claims made for some of these A/C's.

I don't know if the umbilical is long enough, but being portable it might also work in a domestic setting.

Fortunately on the Bailey Unicorn the large front window opens fairly wide, It should be good to fit through that although may be a 2 person job, one passing it to someone inside! The table is lower than what the bracket wants the indoor unit to sit at, so doing that I may actually have more cable than needed.

Yea my expectations aren't to have the indoor temperature sit at 16c whilst it's 25+ outside. As you all know, 25+ outdoor temp can easily get an indoor caravan temp up and over 30 degrees. Even if the air being blown feels cooler than it is outside, I'll be pleased. Last year I had 2 large fans running when we hit 27c temps outside, and they were just blowing around hot air, had to go for a drive in the car for a couple of hours just to feel comfortable!
