I have a 2002 Coachman Amara and during a good clean up this week I noticed that there is a split in the shower tray next to the waste outlet, Is there anything that can repair this or is a new tray needed.
We don`t actualy use the shower as we mainly stay on sites with showers provided, now with tighter finances we are thinking of using cl`s and our own shower,
Your advice will be appreciated

I would buy a new caravan, as the NON stainless steel awning screws should be nicely rusting at this age.
That will also sort out the shower tray problem, probably caused by the waste pipe not being support properly?

Hi Rick, I can't decide if the first reply to your question is written as a joke or if the writer is a bit simple, you say that you want to start using the shower due to tighter finances so to suggest buying a new caravan is to me at least ridiculous, as to how or if it's possible to repair I can't really help but obviously the only real way is to replace the shower tray but if finances are really tight you could try getting to the underneath of the shower tray and supporting with maybe a wooden block the area where the crack is, then a fairly liberal application of good quality silicone in and over the crack should then make it water tight, might not look the best but you could always then put a bath mat on the floor which would hide the repair, anyway it's just a suggestion which makes more sense than "buy a new caravan" maybe the other post writer has more money than sense, mind you wouldn't need too much money for that lol

Thanks for your reply, I have removed the tray and it was only a 1/2 inc split by the waste I have used a fibre glass matting on the underneath re fitted the tray with new suports by the waste and cant realy see the crack so i am going to see if i can get some silicone sealer in it,
As for Ray`s comment I glad not everyone on here acts that way, it has been taken with a pinch of salt

We had our shower tray slit in our van just outside the warrantee.
I used the fibreglass kit that you can get from Halfords to repair it. I can see by your mail rick that you've now fixed your try. I used loads of everbuild 336 sealant to bed the tray back to the support foam pad and to fill air gaps under the tray especially where one walks on it.
As we are full timing, we didn't have time on our side to wait weeks for a tray to arrive or pay a dealership hundred's for the work. I had the "pleasure" of fixing it myself and the satisfaction that it has stood 18mths of fulltime use to date, without re-occurring.

I wouldn't even think of scrapping an eight year old van. My previous caravan was a 1982 Link 575 twinaxle van that I renovated and revamped with a salvage cassette loo and a salvage cascade 2 water heater. I was still working fine as a holiday van even after 25 years of use. We only changed as we wanted a fixed bed for full time caravanning.

Being a multi skilled engineer, I look on most breakdowns as a challenge to repair, and in the process make modifications to prevent re-occurance.
