We emptied our van (nearly a year old) for service. A couple of days later I noticed two spots on the mattress cover, which is usually covered with the duvets. They were like fly dots but as if they'd had water on them so they were blurred - about 2mm across each. The van went for service - 24 hours from dropping and collecting and when we got home there were more of these blurred spots. Definitely not mould. Any ideas ? My first are a resident spider under the bed who nightly poos on our mattress !!!

You might be right, or it could be flies. Does the cover come off so you could wash it? If not I suggest you clean it with a drop of meths. This is better than just water as it dissolves greasy deposits- yes there might be grease there! It also kills any bacteria left. Dunnelm sell moth repellent sachets for wardrobes. I would try one or two of these near the bed. They are insect repellents and should keep flies away and so with no food spider should move out.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I think it is a fly as we covered the mattress with a sheet and there are fly dots on that. I wondered whether to use a diluted washing up solution as that dissolves grease. I was going to put a towel underneath so the mattress didn't get wet. You can remove the mattress cover but am loathe to wash it incase it shrinks !!!
