Hi,
I have recently joined the touring caravan hype, after completing breaks with the family in Trigano trailer tents, it was time to make the final leap to a caravan, with it more accessories beyond my current knowledge.

I have an issue with the water system and feel after much research, that the filter is missing from the left hand pipe before it reaches the water pump, I have checked on the outside as I have noticed some are next to where the water inlet is.

Also I have experienced a leak on the right hand side of the unit (I think a new rubber o-ring will sort this)

But if I'm being a spam and filter is actually in an alternate place, please let me know.

No filter shoudl not affect the systme as many people remove the filter anyway. However it woudl help if we knew the year, make and model of your caravan. (y) :D

My Sprite 2012 had the Flojet pump but no filter was fitted from new. When the pump failed some years later I fitted a new Flojet and the warranty required the filter to be fitted. It was more a fine strainer than a filter.

The filter/strainer is to protect the Flojet pump from particulate matter, it’s not the sort of filter fitted to “purify” drinking water which as you say is often better removed.

Welcome to the forum and as other clive said the photo of the filter is in fact a simple strainer to remove large ,>.0.5mm , particles from the water stream. I never have seen one thats clogged, seen more of the aerators on the tap spouts clogged with debris even the chrome effect plating flakes off the inside of the spout.
Re the O ring , Nitrile ones do flatten over time , I always replace with Viton a more resilient and hard wearing synthetic rubber( also approved by WRAS).
activated carbon and deionser filters fitted in caravans have to be replaced either every year or after 30 days of use. otherwise they lose their effectiveness.I have never come across a client who was a. aware they had a filter fitted or where it was fitted and b. changed it as per the manufacturer's instructions. Finally your questions are not either stupid or minor - we all started from zero knowledge of caravans and this forum is a great reservoir of knowledge ask away.
