squeaky towball

we are new to caravan and recently travelled down to dorset on our return when the caravan was attached to the towbar it was making and awful screeching nose, people have advised us to clean the towball and hitch lock with meths or brake cleaner is this correct

Assume you have an Alko hitch stabiliser. If so yes, clean pads and tow ball. Make sure that you have scoured ALL the paint off the tow ball first.
