Sticking Doors

Hi Everyone

Has anyone any good ideas to prevent the caravan door seals from sticking. When the caravan has been closed up for even just a few days the seals (rubber onto plastic I believe) stick to each other and, although the door can be opened, I'm sure it shouldn't stick like it does.

I've tried car polish and also silicone spray but these only seem to work for a very short period.

I'm sure I can't be the only one with this problem so I guess there are some solutions out there.

I use silicon grease, a light smear & then rub it into the rubber seal last all season, and then a quick run round with it when it's time for winterising the van, at least then all the windows & doors on lockers & main door will open.

I have read somewhere about using talcum powder, but i have not tried that one.

We always use talcum powder once at the end of the winter when van has not in been in use for some time. It works.

Talcum powder is OK. Vaseline is an alternative. Silicone grease or spray should be avoided because if if gets on to the paintwork, even if it's only a minute droplet or smear, it will be almost impossible to do a reliable respray should a repair job be necessary at a later date. Silicone and good paint adhesion just don't go well together.

Any reputable paint shop will use an appropriate cleaner before even applying the primer coat, there are silicone's in a lot of the modern polishes what are in use nowadays.
