Sticky carpets

The carpets in our Elddis Avante have become sticky. I do not know whether this is a non stick application to the underside of the carpets which is working its way through or a protective application to the wear surface. We have cleaned the carpets with Vanish carpet cleaner (twice) but the problem remains. Any ideas as to a solution?

Take the original ones out of there before they get worse like what we have done & get yourself a set of runner carpets for about £2o from your local carpetshop or caravan shop .

Not something I have heard of so no idea what the problem is. I would have a word with the dealer if it is a recent purchase. We use Rug Doctor machines in the house and take the caravan carpets out and clean them at the same time. Very thorough for carpet cleaning and they use hot water which might help although I cannot guarantee anything here.

Kustom Sport (Barnsley) make caravan lift-up carpets to order.
Take your old ones.
Pick up your new ones a few days later.
Or use a carrier (they'll send you patterns).
Google them.
We replaced ours last Autumn for £200.00p.
I can recommend them, they manufacture carpets for all makes as original suppliers.

I’d support using Rug Doctor it removed tackiness on our carpets following a home mover where the removers applied the sticky carpet protectors.

Paying £200 for duplicate carpets seems a lot. Ever since vans have had removable carpets our have lived in the loft. For touring usage we use a number of light mats which are easily taken outside for a brushing and are machine washable. We got our lates ones of a stall at a caravan show. Quite common to find them at such shows. Cost probably less than £40-50.

JML Magic carpet are what Mrs OC says we have now.

How new is your Elddis ?
Seduced by the adhesive bonded body I bought on a few years ago. Like you we cleaned the carpetsvery gently getting them damp not wet. When dry and replaced in the caravan, after a few days we found the backing had completely disintegrated into piles of dusty particles with some residual sticky stuff.
On complaining to t Elddis and the dealer we were told that the carpets should not be 'got wet' at all.

Since the carpets and instruction book bore no warnings to this effect ( although the curtains did) I pursued the matter though the dealer but got nowhere with Elddis. the dearler eventually decided to pay for replacements and indeed proved them but they were the same quality.

Another instance of the disconnect between suppliers and users - it is inevitable that carpets will gt 'wet' at some stage due to occupants coming in out of the rain (literally) or spillage and such carpets are clearly not fit for purpose. Designer/specifiers obviously are not caravan users.

If withing the time limits of Consumer protection Act I suggest you insist the dealer ( with whom you have a contract, not with the manufacturer) replace the carpets or provide an equivalent sum which you cn put towards getting some decent useable carpet. Keep the old ones as templates. You may find your local carpet store/s will have ends of rolls from which replacements can be cut and bound at very reasonable prices.

Glad we do not have those carpets as we had two weeks away in near constant rain in April.

When we had a new Lunar Chateau it came with vynal flooring ideal just put a couple of runners down that could be removrd , our Sterling Europa has carpets that can be removed to clean but I can't understand having any fixed carpets in caravans with muddy grassy foot traffic and even pets might get taken short,

Most european caravans have vinyl flooring complimented with removable bound carpets unfortunately our british counterparts prefer to install “fitted carpets” so to speak

Since we bought a Bailey S5 in 2005 all our U.K. vans have had vinyl wood effect flooring and removable bound carpets which live in the loft.

I have removed the standard carpets in my last three caravans, and fitted my own fully fitted ones, the grass, and any mud does not get underneath, it, it' easy to vacum , if its wet, whilst away, we put down a runner, we can Carpet wash it easy with out removing it, and after winter we remove it and do a thorough clean, the dogs have never have accidents, in the van, it cost me £60 for enough to do two sets for the caravan. From A carpet warehouse.
And when ready to change caravans , we have pristine carpets to hand over.
