Hi,

Hoddom Castle near Lockerbie is a nice site, near the A74(M) in area you're looking for.

We've used it going in the other direction.

Cheers,

Alex.

The C&CC has a site, open to non members, on the outskirts of Moffat. Its only about 5 minutes drive from the M74 and a few minutes walking distance from the town centre.

Two sites you might to try

Glenmidge Smithy, at Aulgirth. Aulgirth is approx 8 miles north of Dumfries on the A76. The site is approx 3 miles from there, it is very quiet, spotless, with electrics, toilet and shower and only takes about 12 vans.Full details can be found on the Visit Scotland web site under Dumfries & Galloway. The other site ia Caravan Club CL at Sanquhar approx 10 miles further north on the A76. I have never been on this site (just a little to close from home)but it looks very nice and there is always vans on it. This site is just off the main road and is easily accessable. The Ranch at Maybole is only about 1 1/2hrs from here..

Hope this may be of some help

William

We've used both Hoddom Castle and Englethwaite Hall for one-night stop-overs.

The later is much handier with the motorway but there are no facilities, as Gumbo points out, but otherwise does what we needed it for.

Hoddom Castle is a lovely site with great walks and good facilities. We fully intend to visit again - but for more than one night. Be careful not to miss the entrance gate (just at the end of the bridge) as I did!
