I was wondering if you are allowed to stay over night in the port car park? Also is safe?

Personally I wouldnt. There is a very nice campsite nearby in a place Gravelines called Camping Des Dunes. Less chance of being robbed or having asylum seekers sneeking on board your van there !!! Visit www.viamichelin.co.uk for directions.
