Storage in France and Gas

We are thinking of leaving our caravan in France this summer in storage. What is the position regarding gas? Does anybody know the costs involved in buying new bottles, regulators etc. if that is necessary? Any help and advice would be appreciated. Also any other tips from members who leave their caravans in storage in France.

Barry - why not almost 'by-pass' the gas. You can use electric heating, water heating, and lighting, and buy a mini-oven and grill for use outside or in the awning - and manage perfectly well without using any gas at all by using the site hook-up which you're paying for anyway. We do most of our caravanning in France, and it's absolutely years since we had to buy a new gas bottle.

We have friends with a caravan in storage, who fly down and hire a car - and they just never use the gas at all. After all, these days, all it really does for most people, in France, is provide somewhere to boil a kettle or heat saucepans and you can do all this with electricity.

Hi Barry,

We leave our 'van in Beziers - South West France. It costs 250E/year and they wash it everytime you collect it. We do keep a small camping GAZ in the van to fuel our cadac. We also changed the van regulator so that it too can use camping GAZ but to be hionest we never use the 'van GAZ. Electric kettle, Cadac and we also have a small portable halogen oven thingy in case we need to roast something. It's a joy being able to drive down without towing!
