Strange question re built in car stereos

Can any technical bod out there help with this weird problem I have.

I have a 2 year old Abbey Vogue , which has a Blaupunkt "London MP48 " car stereo, fitted as as standard. No problem with the stereo, it works fine, but with one minor irritation; which I will try and explain. I have a flat screen Samsung TV in the van; which does not have particularly good sound out. So I bought a small FM transmitter which plugs into the headphone socket on the TV. I tune the transmitter into any empty FM fequency and then tune in the car stereo into it and bingo; loud (if wanted) stereo output from the TV via the car radio system. Works a treat, - - - - - until you press any key on the TV or DVd player remote controls. Pressing any key on the remote controls makes the car radio retune to another frequency. It's nothing to do with the FM transmitter. The car stereo just seems to pick up the signal from any remote control and changes frequency.

Does anyone have any whether it is possible to dissable the stereo from reacting to IR remote control signals?

I told you it was a weird one.
cheers
John

Hi John,
When you say the radio re-tunes when you press the button on any remote control, is that even when the TV and FM transmitter are switched off? And with any type of remote?
If so, then look carefully on the front panel of the radio and try to see where the IR receiver is fitted. If you obscure that fully with a carefully placed piece of insulation tape, that should solve it. As a quick test, why not shove a thick towel in front of the radio and then press the remote.

If it only does it when the FM transmitter is powered up and working, then I have another theory. With everything working, (TV, Transmitter, radio) just unplug the headphone jack. Does that cause the radio to re-tune?
If so, I wonder if when you change channels or use other buttons on the remote, this causes the TV to momentarily cut the sound output to the headphone socket. This in turn may cause the FM transmitter to stop transmitting, which would cause the radio to lose it's signal, which may trigger the autotune.

Not very sure on the technicalities of this but I use a transmitter in my car for my mp3 player that works in the same way as your tv by sending to an empty waveband and my radio when traveling used to try and retune itself.
There was a setting on the rds that I managed to turn off and it stopped doing this.

Sorry it is not a very technical description.

Thanks for the feedback all.
I have the manual for the radio thanks.
In answer to the questions. Yes the stereo changes frequency when the TV and transmitter are switched off. I've read through the manual and there is nothing about remote controls. All it says is that the radio can be controlled by remote controls and to go the the blaupunkt web site to see which controls work with it. When you go to the web site, needless to say there is no mention of remote controls or how to disable the functionality.
I'll have a good look and see if I can find the IR receiver cavity.
Thanks again for the help
regards
John
