Suction fitting mirrors

Hello all,
Does anyone have experience of the suction fitting mirrors ? I like the idea mainly because of the apparent ease of adjustment via the car's motorised mirror adjusment. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hi Derek, I have a pair of the "suck it and see" towing mirrors. I think they are great, like you say they are really easy to adjust, they have the safety strap in case they come off (This has never happened to me though), and they both have their own storage bag. I got the pair off ebay for about £20 and would replace at full price if I had too.......

The fact that they obscure most of the image in the existing mirrors is for me a shortcoming too far. On safety grounds that out weighs any claimed attributes for me.

JTQ Im glad you posted that reply as I went to buy the Suck it and See and was actually put off by our caravan sales people for that very same reason.
The idea is sound but I like many others like the full view of both mirrors

First of all I will say each to their own.
Personally I like to use all the mirrors when towing. I use the nearside car mirror to keep an eye on the caravan wheels on that side as I negotiate left turns. I don't want to kerb the alloys on the van. Also when I took my HGV1 test it was a fail if you hit the kerb without telling the examiner that you needed to mount the pavement.

Another consideration is, the amount of extra stress put onto the car's mirror fixings and the motor when adjusting. I would certainly advise not to adjust your mirror on the move, as you could burn out the mirror motor prematurely. And they are not cheap at about £150 on average.
The mirror motors seem weak on my 75 tourer on their own. I haven't tried my 28 year old clip on mirrors on yet as the shape of the Rover mirrors doesn't look sympathetic to them. I wonder if anyone can recomend a particular mirror for awkward shaped mirrors as the suction type we are debating here seem a logical if not idylic.

I agree that some of the image in youre existing mirror is obscured, however if you position them correctly I find that you can still use both mirrors..............
This is only my opinion though, as earlier said: - each to their own...........

I've used Suck it & Sees for about 18 months now with no problem. There is still a sufficient area of the existing mirror visable to be useful but I guess this depends on your particular towcar. No problem with heated mirrors. I prefer convex on both sides.

My friend used these and didnt stick it to the glass properly, it fell off when on the M3 and then banged against his passenger door for 1 mile until he stopped, had a few nice dents and marks in a nice arc on the door.

These are fine.I used mine for 3 years without any problems.However cannot use them on my Nissan X trail .The glass is much ower than the mirror surround and the mirrors are at such an angle that they cannot be suitably adjusted. try before buying !

Also am not sure that they are that well made as I had glass fall out of one. repaired with super glue ok.

If you like mirrors that block out most of the existing mirrors and wobble about all over the place then they are just the thing for you.
They were so bad that I binned them and installed a rear view camera instead.

Now that's something I would recommend!!!

The electric mirror adjustment is not designed to take the additional load of the 'suck-it-and-see' mirror so you don't have anyone to blame except yourself in the event of possible failure of the mechanism itself or of the adhesive bond between the glass and the mechanism.
