Obviously much improved over the last site, big change, well done.

Just a couple of points I'd noticed :-

Very strange that the top level forum categories re-order based on most recent post. Not sure I can see the benefit as most people want to look in certain categories rather than just reading everything that's posted.

Notification of a reply to your posts would be good. Keep discussions moving along without the need to sit on the site pressing refresh.

A preview option would be good prior to posting too.

I agree that the top level topics shouldn't change order. They need to remain fixed.

No sure what form the notification would be in. If it's a notification on screen, then you'll need to refresh it anyway. The page could auto refresh every few minutes but that would be a right pain and the posts may then change positions.

Not sure about the preview pane. Surely the text box that you've written in is going to be the same as a preview pane.

Sorry, only just noticed the reply. Honestly I'm not making this up to demonstrate my point !!

I meant notification via email that somebody has replied. Should have put this in my original post.

Preview tends to be more useful if you want to insert hyperlinks, different fonts and pictures. Perhaps something for the future once those features are added.

It's OK I'm not from Practical Caravan (PC), just seeing if I agree with your ideas.

I don't think that PC will be very happy about sending out dozens of e-mails a day. This would inevitably take up their internet band width and could cost quite a bit. You're then also into the realms of problems with bouncing e-mails due to the incorrect address being entered and possible spamming of the PC mail server etc which makes it more difficult to manage. Also would they just e-mail the person who started the thread, or everyone who's in it? It would surely have to be everyone if you're in a conversation, so this would mean that in a long thread you could be receiving lots of e-mails telling you that someone else as made an entry. If you're taking part in several threads then you could be getting dozens in a day. This could be then deemed as spamming and could get PC black listed. If you then go on holiday you could come back to hundreds of e-mails which could fill your mail box if you have a restriction on size.

A preview would only be helpful if you could change fonts or insert hyperlinks, which of course we can't at the moment as you say. Maybe it will happen one day. Hyperlinks would be useful, but then it's almost as quick to Copy & Paste the URL into the address bar anyway. Pictures would probably have to be saved to a separate area anyway.
