Sun Canopies

Hi, we're considering buying one of the sun canopies that stays attached to the awning rail during travel, for use on sunny (hopefully!) weekend breaks instead of taking the porch awning.

Has anyone any experience with, or opinion on, these please? We have a flush fitting awning light so shouldn't have any problem there with he travelling aspect. Just wondered whether it is worth buying one.

Hi Sheena,we have a Fiamma Caravanstore roll out canopy 3meter one which we find very handy in this country for the rain and sun and we leave it on through the year.It suits us because we have some disabilities and it is easy for us to open and shut,it does not cause any problems when towing,the size depends on your van and how much of a straightish run you have,will fit on easily and should be left on. Ours cost about

I know its not the type of unit that stays put on the van but an alternative you might consider is Isabella's brilliant "Shadow".

Very easy to carry store and to put up and leaves you the option of fitting either it or your porch when the fancy takes as it does not clutter up the rail.

The technician at our dealers advised very strongly against travelling with it in place .

He felt that the awning strip is not strong enough when in motion though it is when on a Site

Thanks Angela, that's really helpful information. Suppose it's not too much of a hardship to travel with it in the van and put it in the awning rail on arrival.

The Caravanstore is designed to travel in the awning rail,it is not an option,I really can't see any other way of handling it. I dont know if your technician has got evidence to the contrary but I would do as Fiamma advise in this case.Denis.

I've just been on the Fiamma website and notice they recommend that you do not leave the Caravanstor up unattended for prolonged periods or overnight. I suppose that's understandable as they don't look strong enough to withstand strong winds, however, I'm sure when I've been on sites that most people seem to leave them up all the time. Do you roll it up every night?

Sheena,we leave ours up in all winds and weather,if it seems windy I do put a strap over the top for security but have never had a problem,if you wanted to roll it up at night that would be easy to do but we have never felt the need,we also use a side panel called a blocker for the wind and we still dont have any problems,best of luck Denis.
