Sun Canopy or Porch Awning

Hi,

We've just brought our first caravan and need to get one of the fore-mentioned. I like the idea of a porch awning, whereas my husband thinks a sun canopy would be better and easier to erect!

Anyone out there got any advice/views on the matter?!

Thanks,

Vicky

Porch awning for sure, you will fond a lot on here about them so go careful what you buy..We just bought a scenic plus and it was great, suppose to go up in 10 minutes, did take a little longer first time, but I am sure it will be quicker next time.

We have the carastore suncanopy which is waterproof and is excellent. the caravan is big enough for the 2 of us and the carastore gives us a dry area infront of the van. When we arrive it takes me 5 mins (solo) to put up and 5 minutes to roll away when we are movibg on.

buy an awning the square variety with zip out front and side panels, in winter its a shelter, in summer take out panels depending on wind direction. good luck Tony A.

Vicky,

We have both a sun canopy for hot summer vacations, and a Herzog Explorer dome (porch) for cooler (or very cold) seasons.

Our sun canopy is a clone of the Isabella sun shadow, and it's basically a big handkerchief 3 metres by 2 metres (different sizes available). It weighs about 4 kg including the poles and just keeps the sun off. Cost was less than

Depends on when and where you plan to travel. For sun, the Caravanstore is excellent, particularly if you add a tie down strap for all but the strongest wind conditions - when you just have to roll the thing up. Take a windbreak as well - much less hassle than a porch.

The lastest caravanstore (zip) appears to have zip on side and front panels. The simple model has "blocker" side panels available, but these don't make it windproof.

If you want to carry both, keep the caravanstore in the offside awning rail for transit, then choose when you get to site. A small aluminium step ladder 2 or 3 tread is very handy for rolling and unrolling and will probably fit across the gas locker.

Try a Caravanstore Zip. I did have a caravanstore before but the Zip is far better. Gives you all the options You'll ever want. Used it in Spain this with the sides on (windo panels rolled up) during some really strong winds and was a solid as a rock but very versatile. When away for weekends we only use the canopy but for longer stays we usually fit all the sides but keep the front rolled up.

We too had the Caravanstore for several years and then bought the Zip recently

The Zip is good in dry hot weather but the sides are the same plastic as the top and in cooler damp weather the condensation is very marked.

Have thought about purchasing sides and front for our Zip canopy was wondering how they fit down the sides of the van?

I know the sides zip into the front and top of the canopy and have a pole supporting the roof section but how are they secured along the back edge up to the van?

Are the just secured by being pegged?

The Zip has an L-shaped leg/rafter that has the vertical leg against the caravan side .

The rafter goes from the leg through a sleeve the length of the plastic side panel to a pre-drilled hole in the front roof tube.

The roof tube has a groove in the underside through which you slide the front plastic panel
